Wait…

Anotherreset?

The Games were meant to be over.

We were meant to be declared the winners…

The cold confines of our pod greeted us, the dim light of the single yellow lightbulb on our pod indicating we had mated, cast long shadows above our heads.

Riley’s expression mirrored mine: a mixture of surprise and confusion. “Talan?” Her voice trembled, a hint of panic present. “Why are we back here?”

“Nine…”

Our handcuffs clanked against the glass floor.

I shook my wrist, hoping the metallic bind would give way, but it remained as steadfast as ever.

“I… I don’t know,” I confessed, confused.

They were dead and gone, never to be seen again.

But now, there weren’t only four enemy pods.

There werefive.

And the new one wasoccupied.

“Seven…”

The sight of the new inhabitant brought with it a tidal wave of dread.

There, in the pod adjacent to ours, was a familiar blue-scaled alien male.

Powerful, tall, with an intimidating presence, his piercing eyes stared back at me.

It was a Zelthori, like me.

Except, he wasn’t just any Zelthori.

It wasKrexar.

“Six…”
