Each second felt like an eternity, the tension so thick I felt I could slice it with a blade.

A blade I very much wish I had.

Riley’s breathing became more labored, her fear palpable.

I whispered reassurances into her ear, hoping to calm her down. “Stay calm. We’ll get through this.”

Her eyes darted to mine, and I could see the unspoken questions there.

Why was this happening?

What did the creature want?

And, most importantly, would we survive?

As we watched, the creature seemed to grow frustrated, letting out an enraged roar that sent flocks of alien birds flying from the treetops.

It seemed whatever — or whoever — it was looking for remained elusive.

Riley squeezed my hand, her nails digging into my skin.

It was a small gesture, but it grounded me, reminding me of our shared determination to survive.

The beast, after what felt like hours, finally began to move away from us and toward our pod.

But even as it grew distracted, its haunting presence lingered, a shadow that would forever be imprinted in our minds.

Riley’s voice, barely a whisper, broke the tense silence. “He’s looking for something, isn’t he? He’s looking for us.”

No,I thought.He’s looking foryou.

Holding Riley close, the overwhelming mingling of her earthy and floral scent filled my nostrils.

It was intoxicating — so very different from the fragrances of my home planet, but in an utterly captivating way.

How was it possible for someone to smell this… tantalizing?

It wasn’t just a matter of mere olfactory appreciation; there was a deep, primal reaction I felt, which I had not expected or experienced before.

The soft curve of her body against my hard, muscular frame was a contrast that sent jolts of awareness through me.

Every point of contact was like a spark, reminding me acutely of our differences — and, at the same time, of our strange, undeniable connection.

It was hard, maddeningly hard, to keep my desires in check.

But I had to.

I had to be strong for both of us, especially in this unknown, dangerous place.

Her soft, gentle breathing against my neck sent my thoughts spiraling.

How had we ended up in this bewildering situation?

My mind drifted back, seeking answers.

The memories came flooding in.
