This was not Krexar; it was somethingmuchbigger, much more menacing.

My heart raced, knowing that if the beast found us, there would be no escape.

We would be its next meal.

Talan whispered into my ear. “Whatever happens, Riley, know that I cherish every moment I shared with you.”

Tears streamed down my face as I nodded, my throat too tight to speak.

We closed our eyes, awaiting our fate.

The creature’s steps echoed louder, the ground shaking more violently with each stride.

But just when it felt like the end was imminent, the sounds began to fade, the vibrations lessening.

The monster had passed us by.

We’d been spared,at least for now.

Relief washed over me, and I let out a shaky breath.

Our reprieve was short-lived, however.

Another sound reached our ears — footsteps, deliberate and menacing.

We knew who it was even before we saw him.

Krexar emerged from the underbrush, his silhouette stark against the fading light of the alien sky.

The glint in his eyes spelled danger, but there was something else: recognition, and perhaps even a hint of respect.

We might have eluded the monster, but Krexar was a different kind of beast, one whose plans we couldn’t predict.

My body stiffened as Krexar took a step towards us, his dark eyes never leaving mine.

His presence felt like an overwhelming weight, pressing down on the very air around us.

“Please, Krexar,” I began, swallowing the lump in my throat, “if you have any decency in you, don’t harm him.”

I gestured towards Talan, whose weak and frail state was growing more frail by the second.

Krexar tilted his head, a smirk playing on his lips. “Oh, I have no intention of killing him,” he said, his voice dripping with malice. “I want him towatch. To see just how powerless he really is.”

My heart raced, panic seizing me.

I tried to step back, but Krexar was quicker.

He gripped my arm tightly, pulling me towards him.

I could feel his cold breath on my neck, and the pressure of his fingers on my skin threatened to leave bruises.

“Let her go!” Talan rasped, attempting to rise, but his weakened state betrayed him.

He collapsed back, frustration and pain evident on his face.

“I told you,” Krexar whispered in my ear, “I want him towatch.”
