I struggled against his grip, desperate to free myself.

But the more I wriggled, the tighter his hold became.

With his other hand, Krexar began to unfasten the clasps on my jumpsuit, his intentions clear.

My breath caught in my throat.

No. This can’t be happening.

In one last-ditch attempt, I summoned all my strength and grabbed a rock from the ground, aiming it at Krexar’s head.

It made contact, and Krexar stumbled backward, dazed.

Rushing to Talan’s side, I helped him sit up.

Krexar recovered quickly, his eyes blazing with fury.

But instead of lunging at us again, he took a step back, assessing the situation.

“Well,” he said, rubbing his head where the rock had struck him, “it seems you still have a little fight in you.”

Krexar stood imposingly before me, his eyes dark and predatory.

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding so loudly I was certain he could hear it.

My gaze darted to Talan, slouched beside me, his breathing shallow, and his skin ashen.

His once vibrant eyes were now dim, the fire within them quenched by poison and despair.

“Riley,” he whispered, voice raspy and weak.“Run.”

I stifled a tear, brushing his damp hair away from his forehead. “We’re handcuffed together, Talan,” I replied gently, trying to keep the panic from my voice.

Talan blinked, looking disoriented, his fevered brain clearly not processing the situation.

It pained me to see him so vulnerable, especially when I felt so powerless against the looming threat of Krexar.

Krexar, sensing the moment’s advantage, stepped closer. “Time to seal the deal, little one.”

His voice was smooth, but the sinister undertone was impossible to miss.

Before I could react, he grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him.

And then, his lips met mine.

His kiss was cold, devoid of any warmth or genuine emotion.

I could feel his triumph, his assertion of dominance.

But I refused to let him win.

I kept my mouth firmly shut, offering him no response, no invitation.

My mind raced, seeking an escape, a solution.

The distant, rhythmic thudding caught my attention.

The monster.
