Its footfalls grew louder, echoing ominously in the dense forest, the ground trembling beneath its weight.

Each thud resonated with my heartbeat, the two syncing in a rhythmic dance of dread.

“Riley, let go!” I rasped, desperate for her to escape, to come back to me, to be safe.

But she didn’t listen, or perhaps didn’t hear me over the growing cacophony.

Krexar’s face was a mask of rage and terror.

He tried to reach for his blade, but Riley’s positioning made it difficult.

Every time he attempted to draw it, she would shift, preventing him from getting a clear grip.

I wanted to help, to pull her away, but my body wouldn’t cooperate.

The poison was too potent, leaving me an agonized spectator in this tense standoff.

I watched as Riley’s fingers turned white from the pressure of her grip, and her face contorted with the effort of restraining the stronger alien.

The creature’s shadow loomed over them.

Its monstrous face was inches away, eyes locked onto Krexar.

The predator was now the prey, the roles reversed, with Riley ensuring he couldn’t escape.

Krexar’s voice took on a pleading tone, a drastic shift from his usual confident and malicious timbre. “Please,” he begged.

Riley remained steadfast, a silent guardian ensuring he paid for his crimes.

I tried to shout, to call out to her, but my voice was barely a whisper, drowned out by the creature’s menacing growl.

Time seemed to stand still.

Krexar’s struggles weakened, his energy spent.

Riley’s grip remained unyielding, her face set with grim determination.

They were both motionless, frozen, waiting for the inevitable.

And then, with a deep rumble that sent shivers down my spine, the monster advanced.

The world seemed to twist and blur, the poison in my system giving everything a dreamlike quality.

My strength was waning, the pain in my side a constant reminder of my vulnerability.

Yet, in this haze, Riley remained the clear and vivid center of my universe.

Her grip was the only thing anchoring me, pulling me away from imminent danger.

Suddenly, a guttural yell pierced the air, pulling me from my daze.

It was Krexar.

The same Krexar who had hunted us, who had brought this nightmare upon us.

But now, he was launching himself at the very monster that had cornered us.
