It was a sight I could hardly believe.

Krexar’s powerful physique clashed with the even larger creature, his screams echoing with a mix of rage and terror.

It was like watching a ferocious beast defending its territory from a more formidable intruder.

Riley, always thinking ahead, fell upon me, smothering me with her body.

We couldn’t run, couldn’t hide.

I lacked the strength for anything like that.

Krexar got in a few good blows with his blade but within seconds, a harrowing scream rang out.

It was a sound that sent chills down my spine.

Krexar’s scream.

It was filled with agony, a cry that spoke of a definite ending.

And just as suddenly as it began, it cut off, leaving an eerie silence in its wake.

Then a series of snapping crunches as his body was broken and turned into mush by the enormous monster.

Krexar’s end had come.

The silence was deafening, the weight of what had just occurred pressing heavily upon us.

Riley looked at me, her blue eyes filled with a mixture of relief and sorrow.

Despite everything Krexar had done, the reality of his fate was a heavy burden to bear.

We fell into each other’s eyes, our ears listening as the monster continued to consume its fill.

Would it turn to us?

Would it fall upon us the same way?

All we could do was wait.

And pray.

Riley

The vibrations in the ground seemed endless, each footstep the monster took resonating like a mini-earthquake.

Huddled beneath a thick canopy of alien ferns, Talan and I could only listen as the behemoth marched to and fro.

Was it looking for us?

Attempting to locate us?

Did it even know we were here?

It must have seen us earlier.

I just didn’t know.

It was a waiting game, one where the prize was our very lives.
