Poor girl.

“Well, here’s to new things.” We clink glasses, and I sigh, happy to have found myself a friend.

“Let'sget this form to Grace’s daddy, then we can go out for the afternoon.”

“Yayy!”

After a five-minute journey, I turn down a street lined with big houses that are modern and beautiful. “Wow!” Beau croons.

Indeed wow. This is something else.

We’re directed into a wide drive, leading through big gates. I park up and Beau bursts from the car. “Look how big their house is, Mummy!”

“I know, it's so big.” I smile. Dan has done well for himself. A Range Rover and a sleek sports car are parked up. I didn’t expect him to be home. We make our way to the door, and Beau knocks lightly, while I press the bell and we wait. I planned on posting the form through the letterbox and waiting to hear from Dan,but I suppose we can iron a few things out now. Just then, tyres crunch and a third car pulls into the driveway.

Cameron’s.

Angry green eyeswatch me with a deep frown as he parks up and gets out of his car. His scowl turns to a smile when Beau sees him and waves.

“Hi, Beau,” he murmurs.

The door opens and Dan’s face is a myriad of emotions, shock, worry, awkwardness.

“Hi, Dan,” I breathe, trying to keep my voice even. “I hadn’t realised you’d be in,” I say.

“So why knock then?” Cam mutters, giving Dan a pointed ‘what the fuck look’ that he doesn’t conceal from me. Asshole!

“I saw the cars,” I spit. Then look at Dan, clearing my throat. “I saw your car and thought I would give you this in person.” I fish the form out of my bag and hand it over. Cam is standing with his arms crossed, glowering at me.

Grace appears, and Beau hops up and down. “Hi, Grace.” She giggles, stepping between both men and slipping out of my reach.

“Oh, Beau, wait, you can’t just go in.”

“Can I show her my room, Daddy?” Grace asks.

“Quickly. I have a call in a minute.”

“God, sorry, we can go. Beau!” I shout as they race off.

“Holly, relax, she can come in. Here.” He steps back, silently inviting me in. Cameron fumes and clears his throat. Dan rolls his eyes.

“I can wait here. The forms are pretty simple; like I said, lessons are on Wednesdays. I think we can start the girls as early as this week, providing we get the forms in. I know they go back to school, but at least they will get into a routine quickly,” I rushout and flick a look at Cameron, who’s turning redder by the second.

“Wednesday is my day,” Cameron says slowly, glaring at me with unveiled disgust at Dan.

“Oh, sure. I was just getting information should Grace want to join. Beau is signing up so I can just be a backup.” I smile awkwardly at Dan.

“Grace doesn't need a backup because I won’t let her down.” Cameron enunciates each word.

“Okay.” I clear my throat and look to Dan for help.

“You were actually going to let her take Grace on my day?” Cameron laughs scathingly at Dan.

“It’s not like that, Cam. Holly was just getting information for me,” he mutters.

“I was going anyway,” I elaborate, seeing Cam and Dan getting more short-tempered by the second.

“I would have gotten the info. Aftereverything, you’re rubbing shoulders with her,” Cam spits furiously.
