“Well, good,” she huffs and begins walking down towards the doors. I see a group of guys in their early twenties eyeing her up and I want to run over and beat the shit out of them with Beau’s bag. I step in their way and one of them sniggers.
“Dan,” I call, and he gets up quickly, Grace now fast asleep in his arms.
“What’s going on?” he asks.
I don't want him feeling bad so I answer before Holly. “She’s gone for an X-ray just to cover all possibilities,” I say quickly, and Holly frowns, her mouth opening to correct me.
“Shush, gorgeous,” I say naturally, and she snaps her mouth closed, her cheeks crimson.
“Shit.” He sighs. “I feel sick. I’d never hurt a woman. I can’t believe I pushed her.”
“You thought it was Mel. I get why you reacted the way you did, but Grace is safe,” I reassure him. He nods, unconvinced.
“She could press charges, Cam. Even if I explain that I thought Grace’s safety was at risk, she can still press charges.”
“She won’t,” Holly says quietly, looking to Grace in worry. “You really thought she was in danger?”
“Her mum isn’t stable,” Dan admits. “I have full custody, and she’s tried before. To hurt her. Holly, I swear it was a genuine mistake.”
“Why don’t you wait here, and I will go check on Emily?” she suggests.
“Why is Jeremy with her?” I ask suddenly.
“Beau needed the loo, and she got called in. They only just met. I can imagine it’s a bit awkward in there,” Holly says, distracted. She pulls at her bags, but I step out of her reach. I’m keeping these damn things so she has to come and get them.
“We’ll wait out here,” I tell her.
“I want to stay with Grace,” Beau grumbles.
“We’re just going to check on Emily,” Holly says.
“I can hold her,” I say, and Dan rolls his eyes. I kick his shin and smile at Beau, taking her off Holly before she can argue. “See you in a minute.” I grin and the little blonde in my arms giggles.
“See you in a minute,” Beau repeats and grabs hold of my collar again. Holly hesitates, but Dan nods her off, and she kisses Beau’s hair. I get a waft of perfume and the insane urge to grip Holly’s hair and drag her mouth to mine thumps through me.
“Be good for Mummy,” she whispers.
“I will.” I laugh.
“Shut up.” Holly chuckles, then walks away.
I smirk at Dan, happy I made Holly laugh.
“You have a girlfriend,” he reminds me coldly.
“Given that you got your end away last night, you’re in a right mood.” I scoff and walk away, taking a seat. Beau is sleepy as hell and soon nods off, her legs hanging on either side like two ropes, one hand caught up in my collar and the other in her hair. I sit and watch her as she seeks comfort against my chest.
“You’re playing with fire.” Dan shakes his head and leans to check Grace is still asleep. My phone buzzes and I shift to pull it out of my back pocket. It’s from Nadine.

I don’t openthe message but read it from the home screen. I shove my phone away and find Dan watching me. “Is that Nadine?”
“Yeah.”
“She’s feeling insecure.”
“She has no reason to be.”
