“I slept with Dan!” she blurts, horrified.

She what! Holy hell. “Really?”

“No, I made it up,” she drawls. “Yes, really.” She sighs. “I looked after his daughter. He pushed me over. I evidently have no self-respect! I'm never drinking again.” I hear cupboards slam and the kettle boil. “Plus, I feel like death warmed up.”

“Yeah, me too.” I glance at Keeley and Beau, but they are busy going through a unicorn sticker book. The entire house is so full of unicorn stuff it seems as if at any minute the place will explode into a thousand glittery pieces. She groans down the line. “That bad?” I murmur, referring to her hangover.

“No, he was great. Hot, so hot. He is very dominating and I can’t walk properly. It hurts to sit down.”

“I meant your hangover. I don't think I will be able to look at him again now,” I admit.

“You can’t, what about my poor lady garden!”

“Okay!” I say, shutting her up. “TMI!”

Emily laughs, embarrassed. “It was hell after you left. Cameron punched a wall. Someone had a go at him for disrespecting Nadine.” I nod. Good for them. “Dan had to calm him down and then Cameron left in a rage.”

“Nadine was so upset. I might get her some flowers,” I hum, feeling terrible.

“Oh, fuck her, she’s been giving him crap anyway, Dan says.”

“She has?” I begin clearing the plates away. Keeley looks up in question and I mouth to her that it's Em. She nods and turns away when Beau asks her where a unicorn horn goes.

“I told you that Cam liked you still.” She laughs smugly. “Have you seen Dan’s house? It's enormous. His bed is massive.” She sighs. “No one has ever made me feel like he did last night. Shit, Holly. I really like him,” she admits feebly.

“Are you sure it’s not just lust?”

“No, I pretty much was smitten as soon as I arrived in Richmond. That’s one of the reasons I was so upset when he knocked me over.”

“I guess he had a justified reason to panic, even if it was wrong,” I murmur. Dan took her out for coffee to apologise and explained the situation with Grace’s mum recently.

“He’s been sending me flowers since,” she admits, and my brows quirk.

“Does he like you?” I ask, filling the bowl with soapy water and tucking the phone between my shoulders to wash up.

“He likes what he does to me, apparently.” Her tone is tight and cynical.

“He said that?”

“Well, I said it too. It's just lust, a lot of it, and mainly on his side. He is killer in bed.” Her sigh lingers. “I’m taking what I can, whilst I can.” She swallows, and I feel sorry for her.

“Oh, Em.”

“We need a proper catch up. How are you? Last night was crazy?” She changes the subject, so I don’t press further.

“Yeah, it was. I'm okay. Confused.”

“Dan says Cameron has been a mess since you got back,” Emily informs me gently.

“You and Dan seem close. He’s said a lot?” I query, scrubbing the dishes harder than necessary, picturing Cameron’s unfaithful face.

“He was drunk. I left before he woke up. Anyway, I need to grab a shower. I’ll pop over later?”

“Sure. See you later.”

An hour later,I'm at the shop. Keeley had promised Beau she would take her to the park before she went home. After last night, I'm happy for the break to gather my thoughts and make a plan about what I will say to the local lothario about last night's activities. I’ve got my paperwork splayed out on a table. There are a few statements I want to check over whilst I have the opportunity. Beau is busy, and it's rare I'm given a window like this to work uninterrupted.

Ding!
