Page 35 of Running Towards You

"Can it wait? I have plans for you," he said, striding over to me with a mischievous look in his eyes.

I raised a questioning brow. "Oh, yeah? What did you have in mind? Oh, is it for dinner? Because I already have something planned for us."

He slipped his arms around my waist. "Actually, I was thinking more for dessert... come to think of it, maybe we should just have dessert first," he said, leaning down and kissing mesweetly on the lips. His kiss quickly turned from sweet to deep and passionate.

I never imagined I would be having a full-on make-out session on the front porch of my bungalow with Cooper like I was a teenager again, but I also didn't care. I'm sure the neighbors have seen all sorts of kisses and hugs and pats on the butt over the last few days, which might explain the winks and the shy smiles I'd gotten from the occasional neighbor in town.

They seemed genuinely happy for us. This wasn't something I was used to. In Marcus's world, everyone was super competitive. If they saw someone who was really happy, they'd want to know how and why it happened, and why they weren't feeling the same way.

We quickly moved into my living room, and I took over, yanking him by the hand to the couch and then gently pushing him down. "Ireallylike this take-charge side of you," he said in a low, rumbly voice.

"Good, because I don't think she's going anywhere," I said, as I slid off my panties and hiked my skirt up so I could straddle his lap.

His eyes searched mine before he said, "Promise?"

I felt my heart pick up faster. I wanted to make that promise but I couldn't, so I answered by kissing him, nipping at his full bottom lip and rejoicing in the groan that tore from his throat.

I couldn't promise Cooper anything long-term right now, but I could promise him all of my love and attention for the time being.

Our hands were everywhere, and I don’t remember when or how we got his trunks off but the next thing I knew his engorged purple tip was poised at my opening, and Cooper looked at me, red faced and biting his lip, eager for me to make my next move.

I was enjoying teasing him as I swiveled my hips over him and his fingertips bit into the flesh of my hips. "Hales," he growled out in warning.

I gave him a wicked grin before I slowly sank down over him, inch by inch. "Fuck Hales," he bit out, letting out a long, low moan. I joined in with my own when I was finally seated completely, sitting still for a moment and enjoying how full he made me feel.

"Goddamn you feel so good," he breathed.

I kept his face in my hands, rubbing the pad of my thumb over his lip, then leaning my forehead against his and looking deeply into his eyes. I smiled and said, "Just you wait."

He laughed, but quickly stopped when I started moving my hips, slowly, methodically, gradually picking up speed until my fingers were biting into the skin of his shoulders, holding on for dear life and relishing the way his jaw clenched as he tried to hold on to his release as I rode him feverishly.

"I want to feel you come inside of me," I whispered.

He nodded in confirmation as I watched him grit his teeth, and I knew he was close.

My own release was barreling down on me, my pussy spasming around him. He gripped my hips and pounded into me, exploding just as I couldn't take it anymore, and came, crying out his name, "Cooper!"

I buried my face in his neck, shivering beneath his heated words, "That's it, Hales. That's my good girl... so fucking good, every time."

We stayed on the couch in each other's arms for a while before hunger drove us to clean up and set about making our dinner. We would enjoy more dessert later.

And this became the routine of our days. If Haley from a few months ago had known that good food, great sex, andunexpected friendship were in her future, she would've laughed at the suggestion.

But I was here, and I was going to make the most of it.

I started my classes at the community center a couple of days later, and even though I was nervous at first, it all felt so natural. I taught children and adults alike, and it was so refreshing to have people who were eager to learn something new—and to discover they had talent too. The wonder in their eyes when they made their first works of art was addictive. That would never get old for me.

I spent a week in my blissed out little bubble with Cooper, enjoying his attention and affection, enjoying my newfound community, and feeling like I was back to my old self for the first time in a very long time.

Considering my recent past, I should've known something would pop that bubble sooner than later. When I came up on my porch one afternoon after going to the General Store and checking in with Mahina, I nearly shrieked out in surprise when I found Marcus waiting for me on the front porch.

He looked woefully out of place in his three-piece suit and tie—he had to be hot as hell in his uniform. The weather recently turned muggy, so that tie had to feel like it was choking him.

Thankfully, I saw him before he saw me, so I had a moment to compose myself, peering out to the water to see that Cooper was engrossed in a lesson with a client.

I didn't know what I hoped for more: that he wouldn't notice Marcus was here and lose his shit, or he would help me run this asshole out of town because Marcus was the last person I wanted to deal with.

Finally, I forced my feet to move, addressing Marcus when I hit the bottom of my porch stairs. "Marcus?"
