“We felt your fever break pretty much last night after you came down with me.”

“How long?”

“Five days,” said Leeson.

Five days. I guess that wasn’t… the worst. It wasn’t my worst heat, that was for sure. Not when I attempted them on my own. Huh. Another perk.

A pack perk.

I was a part of a pack now.

I reached up to touch the bond mark Leeson gave me on my shoulder, still feeling that it was a little raw and tender. I bit my lip as I grinned. I was Pack Grim. Just like that.

“Look at your smile.” Leeson grinned with me, though his eyes shut, taking another moment of rest. “Next time we need to be more prepared. You should’ve seen Si running around here looking for protein bars and snacks you would accept during your heat.”

“Was he worried?”

“Just normal alpha worried,” Leeson chuckled. “Not going to lie, we all need a nap. You too, I think.”

I hummed, shutting my eyes again for a second. He was probably right.

“Is she awake?”

“Yep.” Leeson helped me roll over until Jacob was grinning down at me from where he was propped up on his elbow. “Hey, sweetness. Back to the land of normal temperatures.”

I flushed.

He laughed. “Not yet then.”

“I’m here. Thirsty.”

“Thank god.” He tossed me a water bottle. “Drink. All of it.”

Leeson took the bottle and cracked open the top before handing it back to me. The request wasn’t all that hard to follow through on as I gulped down the water.

“Well, we can definitely cross that experience off the alpha bucket list,” joked Jacob.

“You have an alpha bucket list?” Leeson asked.

“You don’t?”

“Pretty sure you’ll have a few more to get through before you kick the bucket.”

“How many twice a year?”

“Two… three?” Honestly, I wasn’t sure. We’d have to find out, but I was sure we’d do so together. “Are you all okay? I didn’t…”

“Wear us out?” asked Jacob.

Leeson looped his arms around me, holding me until my back met his chest, warm and clammy. I doubted I was much better though. “You were perfect.”

I looked around my very messy nest. “Where is Silas?”

“Here.”

I looked up to the doorway. In the center, Silas stood before me and moved the rest of the way toward me. He cupped my cheek. “Are you doing alright, Vera?”

“Aw, look at him now trying to come up with extra brownie points being all sweet,” said Jacob.
