“Ready to go?” I asked.

She sighed and took a step next to me. “Lead the way.”

Chapter

Eleven

VERA

Iwas pretty sure going on a date with Jacob at this point was a form of coercion. He had been everywhere over the past few days. So much so, I couldn’t get him out of my head. And that seemed to be his plan. Yet here I was, giving in.

Then again, it also made my heart do a weird little pitter-pat in my chest and my omega seemed more than thrilled about it.

Because of course, she did.

It was getting harder to argue with her.

I put a hand to my head again, massaging my temples as I tried to settle my entire nervous system back down again.

“Is your head still hurting you?” Jacob asked, concern shown in how he pressed his lips together.

“I’m fine.” When I woke up this morning, I worried that my heat was going to come on early with the way my skull had pounded.

“Do you get headaches a lot?”

“Only when… not really.” I caught myself before I let loseonly when I was extra hormonal like around my heat.

He narrowed his eyes with a smile, leading me inside a small café a short ride from campus. He was probably just as shocked as I was at this point that I wasn’t putting up as much of a fight.Right now, my body was tired, and I couldn’t help it. I wanted to see him and be taken care of. Plus, I was hungry.

Somehow, I always felt a little hungry with him.

He led me into a seat near the corner of the café, looking around. The place was bustling with a mixture of students and others on their lunch breaks.

“Good?” he asked.

I nodded, reaching to unzip my jacket. Though it was cozy, it was oddly warm in here.

“Is there a reason you’re always feeding me?” I fidgeted in my seat.

“You said you were hungry,” Jacob said. “Plus, it looks like you haven’t been eating today because of your headache.”

“I am fine.”

“All right. It also makes my alpha feel good to feed you.”

Standing up after that little tid-bit of new information, Jacob gestured for me to stay seated as he went for the stuff. I hadn’t seen what he’d ordered. I’d been too busy looking around. I always meant to try the places off campus out, but it just never happened.

I always felt too busy. Even if I was mostly just alone in my room.

Jacob came back before I noticed, balancing plates of food. He easily laid out the spread across our small table. “I wasn’t sure what you wanted, so I got a variety of the good stuff. Not that there is bad stuff here. I didn’t ask. Are you vegetarian?”

I shook my head.

“Then you have the option.” He pointed. “This is turkey, cheese, and pesto. The other one is a honey cheese sort of thing. Both are freaking amazing.”

“Honey and cheese?” For some reason, the two things just didn’t seem to go together.

“It’s a spreadable kind, I think. Goat cheese?” he explained. “They try to be fancy but, in the end, it turns out more like a delicious comfort food. Have I steered you wrong yet?”
