“Oh.” My cheeks flushed, heating. “I just meant?—"

“You’re invited to every game night and every other night too. I hope you know that.” The odd thing was my omega was certain he meant it. This was my alpha after all. Blame it on the scent match or the hormones flooding my body with every minute I got closer to my dreaded heat, but…

I shouldn’t. I really shouldn’t.

But I wanted it.

I sucked on the inside of my cheek as I contemplated this.

“It’s nice getting to know you, Vera.”

I looked down at my chest before backing up at him as we headed out on the sidewalk towards his car which smelled even more of him. “It’s… nice getting to know you too.”

“Told you, I’d make it worthwhile.”

Chapter

VERA

“Ican’t believe it! You’re really giving them a chance?”

Pausing, I nodded. It certainly looked that way.

It was that way.

“Ah! I’m so excited for you!” Shelby jumped around the room. I watched, wondering where exactly my friend found the energy. “It’s going to be so amazing. Let yourself be pampered for once.”

“I don’t think there will be pampering.”

“The dates! The evenings alone with them…” she wagged her eyebrows.

“I don’t… There won’t be evenings alone.”

Shelby remained unconvinced. Honestly, the way my omega was preening at the fact we now officially had a pack chasing us, I was too. I needed to hold it together though. I was just going on dates. I was getting to know them a little better since they didn’t seem like the people I assumed most alphas would be. They didn’t seem like the kind of alphas my mother was so set against.

After I told Jacob I had a good time and wouldn’t be against another date, he asked me to message Leeson. Now Leeson was set to pick me up the next evening for my second official PackGrim date. I didn’t know how to feel about it, but it seemed now that I went out with Jacob. This omega was open for business.

Not that way though as Shelby continued to suggest.

My omega itched inside of me with even the slight possibility my intrusive thoughts of seeing Pack Grim for more than just a date could come true as Shelby also insisted, I was crazy if I didn’t see through.

But I needed to calm myself down. I couldn’t get ahead of myself.

My heart raced in my chest.

“At least say you’re excited. Or— I know you won’t,” mumbled Shelby. “But just give me a sign this is actually what you want and that you are somewhat looking forward to the fact that you might be living out most omega dreams right now by having not one, not two, but three super-hot hockey-playing alphas after you?”

“Not three.” Though Jacob and Leeson might want to let me have a chance to get to know them. I still haven’t heard anything about the elusive third and prime alpha of their pack, Silas Grim.

“Soon enough.” Shelby sighed, as if somehow convincing someone to believe in fate when I was even having trouble would happen only in a matter of time.

I stared at her. Shelby stared back.

“I’m nervous.”

She grinned wider if that was possible. “Good. That’s how you know it means something to you.”
