I swore my heat made my entire body sound like it was turning into a monster. Monster PMS had nothing on the constant binge I wanted to be on. I was like a bear scavenging for food I didn’t need.

I wasn’t going to be on an all-out sex spree after all when my heat did hit, which was clearly what my body was preparing for.

I continued to unlace my figure skates.

By the end of our skating session when a small group of hockey kids were trying to get on the ice for their rented time at eight-thirty, I had managed to fall at least three more times. According to Leeson, though, I managed to look more graceful doing it each time.

“Would you like to come back to the apartment for a little?” Leeson asked.

“Oh. I kind of thought…” I drifted off. I kind of thought the date was over and the whole way off the ice I had a small hole forming in my stomach when I realized I didn’t want it to be.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I just figured since it’s still not too late. I could get you some food. I’m pretty sure Silas got our grocery order in at the beginning of the week and we should have something I can quickly whip up,” said Leeson. “We could hang out for a bit and watch a movie?”

Before I could stop myself or overthink it, I was already shaking my head to look at him and smiled. “Okay.”

The lights inside the apartment were off and everything had an oddly empty feel to it even though there were bananas on the counter and mismatched mail sitting out. Over the couch, there was a blanket I remember laying over Leeson’s legs the other day after I came out of Jacob’s room.

I took a step in before I could even agree. Leeson didn’t seem to mind. He shut the door behind us both, turning the lock. Shedding his coat, he headed for the kitchen.

“How do you like grilled cheese?” he asked.

“Sounds amazing.”

Especially if he was making it.

“Is no one else here?”

“They shouldn’t be back for a bit,” Leeson explained as he started to butter slices of bread and get them started to cook on the stovetop. “Silas had the team doing an extra lift tonight at the main gym.”

“So why aren’t you there?”

Leeson’s face creased in confusion. “Because I’m with you.”

“Right,” I said, rephrasing myself. “But won’t that get you in trouble with the coach or Silas or someone?”

“I’ll deal with it. I planned on making up for the workout in the morning anyway. They knew I was still at the barn tonight. It’s not a big deal. Stop looking so worried, I promise.”

“I don’t want to keep you away from your team or anything.”Or your pack.

Here I was again starting to overthink it. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea. Maybe I shouldn’t have been standing here with an alpha I didn’t—well, I couldn’t say that I didn’t know Leeson at all anymore. If anything, I knew him and Jacob more than I knew most people. The only person beyond them was Shelby.

And even she continued to surprise me every day with the antics she got to with her other friends she filled me in on.

“You’re not. I’m exactly where I want to be.” He caught one of my hands that went up to my mouth. I bit the skin around my thumb. I hadn’t realized I’d been so anxious that I brought myself to it. Leeson smoothed his skin about it. “Water or juice?”

“Juice?”

“Is that a question?” Leeson asked with a raised eyebrow. “Silas presses fresh juice every week. He acts all healthy but secretly does anything to avoid drinking water like the rest of us. There is a weird green juice and orange it looks like this week.”

I shook my head, not wanting to risk it. So far the elusive third alpha sounded… different. “Water is fine.”

A glass appeared in front of me.

My eyes widened.

Leeson hesitated before moving back towards the stove, turning over our sandwiches. The pan hissed as it hit the other side. “What?”

“Just thinking how crazy this service is,” I said, letting my voice a little looser.
