Page 50 of Knot for You

“I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant that you get in the zone when you’re trying to get stuff done. It’s okay. Jacob does it and so does Silas when they are focused on something. Silas might be the worst.”

“But not you?”

“Me too. But I’m a little too food-focused to accidentally skip a meal,” said Leeson.

I chuckled. “I just forgot this paper was due. It isn’t like me. I was forgetful for some reason.”

“Happens.”

Not to me.

He nodded as if I had said the words aloud. “You should come with me and watch our practice today.”

“What?”

“Take a break and see us in action. They let the practices open so long as you don’t start screaming our name with how awesome we are.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Come on, it’ll be fun.”

I glanced down at my books. I did have a few more things to work on even if they weren’t due for a while… “What time?”

Leeson grinned. “Four to six. You can come at the end and we can go get something to eat again if you want. Jacob is feeling left out.”

These alphas were perhaps just as needy if not more than the average omega stereotypes everyone heard about. “Alright. I need to finish this though.”

“No problem,” Leeson said. “That was all I needed. Mind if I study for a bit here?”

“You don’t need to be anywhere else?”

He shook his head. “I have about twenty minutes until I need to do my final class.”

“Okay. That would be nice.”

“Awesome.”

Save for the occasional glance my way as I finished my protein bar, both of us did get work done. Maybe it wasn’t as much work as I thought I would, but by the time Leeson left, I almost felt reenergized to make sure everything was complete by the time I headed to see him play.

To see the alphas play.

Even if that might’ve included Silas. The realization sent a shot of uncertainty through me. The feeling lingered as I packed up and headed down the road towards the arena that felt like I hadn’t just been there yesterday.

Already, I feared so much had changed.

Was this what people talked about when they spoke of alphas and omegas finding their matches? Right now, I felt more unsteady than when I was on the blades themselves rather than watching Leeson and Jacob run drills before splitting up into more specialized positions where Leeson was put into the net with another guy who looked much smaller than he was.

Leeson filled out the entire net as he stretched, which was obscene before blocking puck after puck.

Jacob spotted me first in the stands along with some other students and arena users that must’ve worked with the school. He threw me a wave before getting back into practice seamlessly. Another player also seemed to notice me instantly.

Silas stared at me with a flat, expressionless face before turning back towards the farthest side of the ice from where I sat.

Farthest away from me.

Maybe that was a good thing, I was beginning to think, even if a piece of me felt less like omega and more just like I wanted to wither in my chest again much like this morning.

The way the players moved was nothing but impressive. They sliced their way through the ice as they played. Some of them patted each other on the back whenever they worked through something or another. I didn’t understand as I volleyed between watching and continuing to read through the next chapter of my book for my American Literature class, highlighting when something stood out to me.
