A whistle blew.

Leeson pulled off his helmet and grinned up at me before he skated towards the wall.

Seeing him wave at me, I gathered my things and walked down.

“Hey, you made it.”

“I did.”

“I’m glad. I’m headed down to clean up with everyone and then we can get out of here. You can wait here or head out to the main area if you want,” he said. “Jacob was talking about wanting to make something special for dinner. I don’t know, but we might have to stop at the grocery store. We can pick up some more granola bars too for you during the day if you want. Sound good?”

It sounded more than good. That uncertain feeling started to fade again. “Okay. See you in a bit.”

Skating away back towards the exit of the ice, Leeson made his way down the stairs towards what must’ve been the player locker room. Slinging my backpack over my shoulder, I still hugged my book to my chest, keeping the page marked with my finger. I would read a few more pages before they returned from showering or whatever else they did downstairs, but the lobby area would at least be a bit warmer than in the rink.

In the lobby, the place was packed with young girls getting ready for figure skating lessons. I smiled at a few girls who looked at me as if in wonder as I passed until I was at the doors. Though it was cold out, Spring was finally trying to shine through. I walked out the doors and sat on the bench outside before I opened back up my book.

Where had I left off?—

In a breeze of power, he stepped off the ice. In only three steps, Silas Grim stood towering over me. I could smell him. The sweat. The sweetness.

Pure. Delicious. Alpha.

My eyes might’ve glazed over. Maybe those stupid omega historical romances with all the swooning in them weren’t being over-dramatic.

Silas only glared as he stood over me, casting a shadow over the page I was reading. “What do you think you are doing here?”

“I um… I…” Why could I not form words?

“You need to leave.”

“Right,” I said. “I’m?—”

“I know who you are. We don’t need a distraction.”

“Ah, so Jacob wasn’t lying when he said you didn’t like me.” I should’ve been thrilled, but instead, my stomach felt like it was preparing to shrivel up and die. No, that was probably my omega screaming at me to shut up before I made a bigger fool of myself.

“No,” said Silas with a sneer. “Do you understand what I am saying?”

“I…” Actually, I wasn’t sure if I did. “I’m waiting for Lee and Jake.”

His eyes flashed at the way I so casually used their nicknames.

“Yeah, genius. I see that, but didn’t you just hear me?”

“Excuse me?” I stood up, narrowing my eyes at Silas. What was he doing, speaking to me like that? Maybe I had been around Jacob and Leeson for too long already because now this alpha didn’t scare me as much as he probably should have as I faced off with him. “Don’t talk to me like that.”

“We don’t need a distraction around here, omega. Especially not at practice.”

“I’m not trying?—”

“We don’t need you.”

My heart caught in my chest.

“Right, well…” I took another deep breath, steadying myself. This was Silas. This was an alpha connected to the two people I was already starting to care about far too much. “I understand if you feel that way.”

“I don’t just feel that way. Go,” Silas swatted me away like I was a bug.
