Page 59 of Knot for You

Jacob’s brow furrowed. “Did you really think that?”

I paused, wondering if I should just come clean about Silas. Instead, I shook my head with a shrug. “I don’t know. I didn’t want to, but… I just started to overthink it I guess and I was afraid that…”

“Did Silas talk to you?” asked Jacob.

Maybe I didn’t have to say anything.

“What?” Jacob turned to Leeson who raised his eyebrows in surprise. “He’s been acting like an ass the past two days, talking to us like we had no right to be upset wondering where our omega went.”

Theiromega.

“He wouldn’t,” said Leeson. “Vera?”

“He stopped me the other night after I watched you all at practice. He might’ve said that you guys were busy and some other stuff. He’s right though. I don’t want to get in the way of everything you all have planned and the goals that you have right in front of you.”

“Nothing is going to stop us from that,” said Jacob. “We already have everything practically sorted so long as none of us get knocked out before the end of the school year.”

“What?”

“We already have teams scouting us, Vera,” said Leeson. “There is nothing more to work for other than skating and making sure we are doing our best. We are all going to pass. Even Jacob.”

“Hey.”

“There is no reason that Silas should be pushing as hard as he is. He’s going to burn out more than the rest of us. We’ve been the ones making sure that he’s doing okay which is about as easyas wondering whether or not we should go after you when you stop texting us back the past few days.”

“Oh.”

“Don’t listen to him, Vera.” Leeson kissed my neck and I so wanted to forget about everything, but it wasn’t just about Silas. No matter how much his complete rejection hurt more than I wanted to say.

Because I shouldn’t have wanted any of them. I shouldn’t have even let it go this far, but the longer it went the more I felt like I was going to die if it all stopped.

“Silas is… he’s had a rough time when it comes to omegas,” Leeson admitted. It felt like a rephrasing of the same words I’d been told already a few times. But right now, I wasn’t so sure there was anything that could say that Silas would ever have an ok time with an omega, ever.

“He’ll come around. It takes him a while to adjust to change but once he does… he defends his family—his pack, unlike anyone I had ever met. It makes me honored that he is a part of our pack and that he leads it. You’ll get to see that side of him too.”

For the first time, I hoped so. “You think that?”

Leeson nodded. “I know it.”

“What do you mean when you said that he… has a rough time around omegas? Can you tell me anything?” Because he wasn’t the only one that had trouble around omegas. He had to know that, right?

Then again, he didn’t know me.

I was just starting to fully see myself as one on my own. It wasn’t like I was the traditional sort of omega in any aspect. I was, all in all, a big mess. An omega that forced herself to have beta tendencies and hadn’t realized how much she hated it all the way.

Until now.

I rested the side of my head on Leeson’s shoulder.

He sighed. “It’s not my story to share. That’s all on him, but I’m sure you’ll hear it sooner than later. He’s a good guy.”

I glanced up at him with a raised eyebrow.

“Most of the time. Right now, he is being a real asshole.”

And that was putting it lightly.

“Just keep the door open for him, even just a crack. I know it’s an ask and he’s being more than just a little difficult, but, leave the door open.”
