Looking at myself in the mirror, I wasn’t very dressed up. For some reason lately, whenever I was with the guys over the past few days where they hardly left me alone, not that I started to mind, I was in some state of either put together or completely in shambles. Today I hovered right in between in a pair of jeans, sneakers, and my oversized sweater to show off the violet underneath.

“Ready.”

Heading to the athletic area across campus had become a walk I was starting to get used to. Jacob led me inside the ice area, holding my hand, checking back with me with a smile on his face as we bypassed the ticket booth where I was supposed to flash my student ID.

Jacob pressed a quick kiss to my lips as he cupped my face and he gestured for me to go towards the doors where I saw others moving past to sit down and where quite a few of the hockey players were already standing to get out onto the ice. They were nudging each other back and forth, shouting above the noise with laughter. “See you on the other side, sweetheart.”

Heading down the stairs towards the locker rooms, I moved towards the doors.

Leeson’s head turned around immediately, scenting me when I got close. He pushed past one of his teammates, most of whom turned to look at what must’ve caught his attention.

“Hey, baby. How are you doing?”

I smiled up at him as he pushed his helmet back. His eyes were bright and excited. “Good.”

Leeson looked over my shoulder, pausing. Glancing back, Silas was there, standing tall. But he paused a few paces away.

I held my breath, waiting for something, though I didn’t know exactly what.

So far, Silas has not come around. Even when I opened the door a crack. Or when I let it wide open since I had been spending more time at the apartment than before, though I still wasn’t confident enough to spend the night again knowing that he was only down the hall.

Having the lead alpha not like me, made me feel… unwelcomed.

Unsettled.

One of the teammates glanced at me before turning towards Silas with a shit-eating grin on his face. “Is this your omega, bro?”

Silas looked forward with a snort before he pushed away from the wall and past them all towards the ice where the coaches bracketed the mass of players. “No.”

Something yanked in my chest. I put my hand over it before I could stop myself, rubbing in small circles.

“You okay, baby?”

I looked up to Leeson. “Have a good game.”

“Will now. We have our good luck charm here.”

“I’ll cheer you on.”

“I sure hope so.”

A buzzer sounded and all the guys started onto the ice. I followed them shortly after into the area to find a good seat. When I sat down, Leeson and Jacob both glanced through the stands for me and when they found me gave a short salute.

I laughed, giving one back.

My eyes still shifted towards where I saw Silas starting up on the line before the whistle blew. I could’ve sworn he was looking up this way too.

Then the game began.

I don’t know why I never watched hockey before. Or rather I did know. I was never one for sports, but now, all of that was being challenged, and not just because of the large alphas on the ice that made my heart hammer in my chest. The game was rough and invigorating.

When the final buzzer sounded there was cheering through the stands. VU won by two points. The guys cheered on theice before taking it back towards the doors leading back to the locker rooms. Out in the hallway, everyone surrounded the players.

One more game and then they’d be onto nationals. I had no idea just how much rode on each game, and they did so much better than the other team. My alphas did amazing. It was no wonder that some of the people who had been up in the stands were now talking with the coaches, holding their clipboards.

Were these the recruiters that Leeson was talking about the other day? The coach looked fed up with the entire thing, waving a hand towards Jacob and Leeson as they celebrated with their team.

I watched off to the side, unable to stop myself from grinning seeing how excited they were.
