One of the girls launched themselves at the guys screaming as they won. One of them wrapped their arms around Silas, nearly jumping onto his padded shoulders.

Before I could hold it back, I heard a rumbling sound. From me.

A few of the alphas on the team immediately turned their heads.

I cupped a hand up towards my throat. I growled at her.

Wait.I just growled at her?

Heads swung towards me, including Silas as he stood up.

For a moment, I was sure that Silas was going to come and chastise me. I wanted to chastise myself. Leeson made it there first. “You all right?”

I nodded. “Congratulations. It’s really exciting. Sorry about that. I don’t know where it came from.”

“Don’t think about it for another second. Looks like your omega is getting a little possessive.” For some reason, Leeson looked mighty pleased about this latest development.

Was that what it was? All I knew was that I didn’t want anyone else touching them.

“I’ll just go,” I said quickly. “I’ll wait for you outside.”

“Okay. If that’s where you’re comfortable. We won’t be long.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, baby. We’ll be right out.” Leeson squeezed my hand. He nudged Jacob and they headed towards the locker rooms.

Silas within the previous moments was already done with the group that was still celebrating and talking about what they were planning to do afterwards.

I wandered out through the front doors. It was no longer raining, but it was still damp over the sidewalks as I paced back and forth as more people started to come out of the arena, laughing and smiling to one another as they dispersed back onto campus.

It was fun watching them play and more pride than I expected swelled in my chest as I thought about how the game went. Now I just had to figure out how to be normal and act like a college student around everyone else. I didn’t realize that in that aspect, I was so… stunted.

Even if Shelby sometimes joked that I wasn’t well socialized likely due to my designation in average social situations.

“Vera.”

Before I could consider otherwise, I froze from the voice and took a step back. For some reason, it might’ve been one of the last people I expected to see now, my mind on other things.

Or rather three very specific things.

“Brian.”

Though I hadn’t been watching him in class, he looked just as haggard as the last time I saw him before I met with Ms. Meyers. Or maybe he always looked like that.

“What do you want?” I asked.

He paused before clearing his throat. “I heard that you no longer are taking Ms. Meyer’s class.”

“Yeah, someone told her that I was getting special treatment.”

“Right.”

“You should be proud of yourself,” I said. “Now you're automatically top of class. Probably in everything now. I won’t be able to scrub that incomplete late academic withdrawal off my transcript.”

“She kicked you out?” Brian asked.

“Yes.” I narrowed my eyes.
