“For once the big guy is right.”

I chuckled.

“Now go and get ready for your mom. We want to make a good first impression when you introduce us,” said Jacob. I unlocked the door and made to get out before he gently touched my arm. “Kiss for the road?”

Leaning over the center console, I rolled my eyes as I gave him a short kiss. Cupping my neck, he pulled me in for a longer one.

“Mhm,” said Jacob. “And you know, you’re never just an omega.”

“I think I love you too.”

“That so?”

“Pretty sure.”

“I’ll make sure of it later,” promised Jacob, a wicked glint in his eyes.

Now all I wanted was to stay in the car. Checking the time though on the radio, I quickly hopped out and ran towards my door. I gave a wave over my head before I made it through the doors.

The RA didn’t give me a second glance as I rushed through.

I wanted to swear as I quickly stripped myself of my clothes, rushing towards the communal showers down the hall without slipping. I tried to rinse off under the water, not able to take the time to do anything but run a single layer of soap over my skin before watching the suds go down the drain. I hoped my hair wasn’t too bad from where it was twisted up in a loose bun.

Rushing out of the showers and back into my room, I slammed the door behind me hearing my phone ping again.

It must be her a few minutes out.

I slipped on my tennis shoes, a loose skirt, and a sweater. The outfit was perfect enough when it was still liable to rain again today. I looked good enough. Put together and yet, casual. Either way, I didn’t have much time before she showed up. If there was one thing my mother was, it was punctual.

By the time I looped my hair around my shoulder, my phone rang.

I parked behind the dorm where I did last time.

Hello?

Vera?

I quickly typed a message back as I rounded the corner back into the hallway. My door slammed behind me.Be right out!

I nearly collided with my friend. Her eyes widened as she took in my frazzled state as I continued past her. I couldn’t stop now.

I made it.

“Are you okay?” asked Shelby.

“My mom is here.”

Her eyes widened. “Have fun.”

I’m not sure if I could call it that and Shelby grimaced in sympathy. “You got this. Wait—Are you going to tell her about the?—”

Alphas? Yes. What I said to Jacob was true. I wanted to. It wasn’t like the Grim Pack was going away. They were going to be in my life for the rest of it, and my mother deserved to meet them and see just how wonderful they could be.

Silas appeared in my mind, churning my stomach in wonder what my mother would think about the lead alpha becoming my personal booty call since he promised to never commit himself to a random, needy omega.

My heart felt like it was aching, but I was unsure if it was because of what I was keeping from my mother or from how fast I’d been moving since Jacob dropped me off less than a half hour ago. “I don’t know.”

Shaking her head, she watched me race down the stairs to the ground level. “Let me know if you need me to run interference!”
