I cleared my throat. “Hey, mom?”

Blinking a few times she looked at me.

“There is something I actually wanted to talk to you about while you were here and not over the phone,” I started. My heartwas racing in my chest at every word closer I got to spilling out everything.

I’m scent matched to three alphas in a pack who were graduating this year and I really wasn’t so sure I could do anything else but love them at this point and I knew it sounded crazy and maybe it was a little too omega for her but this was what was going on and I really would love if she wanted to meet them since at least to out of the three of my possible, yet very real, mates were decent guys.

I’d be out of breath if I managed to say it all.

“Yes, Vera?” my mother prompted.

“Sorry, I uh…” My eyes drifted away back towards the ice.

One of the other team’s players rounded the goalie, cutting in close before returning to the game.

What was he doing?

My eyes widened, watching as the team tried to score another point, only this time, the one player who was scoping out the goal a moment ago swung back with a sharp turn while the puck went wild.

I couldn’t stand it as if I knew what was going to happen before it did. I was standing before I realized what I was doing. Luckily, I wasn’t the only one as I watched the other team’s player whip past the VU defenses and head straight for the goal.

Leeson’s helmet was thrown to the side.

“Vera,” my mom startled. “Where are you going?”

I couldn’t answer. I was spurred on by pure instinct. I needed to get down to Leeson. I needed to make sure that he was ok. I needed to make sure my alpha was alright, right now.

“Vera!” My mother yelled in a hush, looking around herself.

I was no longer worried about her though.

I shoved through people standing on the edge of the walkway, oh-ing and ah-ing the mess on the ice that justoccurred until I was finally near the edge of the box where everyone sat on the bench, pulling Leeson to the side.

The coach waved his hand in an order. “Nel, head in.”

“As the goalie? For Lee?”

“Do you want to play or not?” Coach asked.

The newbie first-year threw himself over the wall and onto the ice, heading towards the net on slightly wobbly skates. He didn’t quite fill the space the way Leeson did before.

Leeson’s eyes met mine, one of which was bleeding. His eyebrow was cut open. That other player tried to—no, he did hurt Leeson.

He hurt my alpha.

My blood started to boil.

“Vera?” Leeson asked, reaching a hand to me as if he could sense my frantic energy.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

One of the other players helped me over the wall. The coach yelled at me to see what in the world I was doing before rolling his eyes when my fingers poked and prodded at his prize goalie’s face to make sure everything was still there and all right.

Leeson only slightly flinched. “Baby, I’m alright. Did you run down from the stands to see me?”

“Yes.” I did.

I just did that, didn’t I? My eyes widened as I started to understand what I’d just done.
