And the burning question about why I married him, if it wasn’t for Belén, will arise once again.

Nothing about my actions before made sense, and as I see the sign for the museum, I decide that nothing will come out of telling him about what happened in the past.

No, the best thing to do is to just enjoy our last day here.

“It was thoughtful of you to pick a museum. You remembered that I love art.”

Once we leave the car and get inside, I know not only did he just make sure no one was in our hotel, but the museum too, as we’re greeted as if we’re entering our own private viewing. I’ve worked in galleries a couple of summers, I know the drill for the rich and privileged.

Once we enter, my once forgotten Japanese enters my mind to have a light conversation with the guide as he takes us around on a tour. We encounter a breathtaking collection of romantic art, each piece conveying emotions that transcend time.

One notable piece is a traditional ukiyo-e woodblock print titled"The Lovers' Promenade."A couple stroll along a moonlit riverbank, evoking a sense of timeless romance. The colors and the delicacy of the brushstrokes create an atmosphere of intimacy. The artist did it so the observers could feel as if they’re witnessing a tender moment.

Another captivating work is a Noh theater mask titled“Eternal Devotion.”The mask, used in classical Japanese performances, is the eternal bond between lovers. Theexpressions etched on the mask tell a story of enduring love, and the intricacies of its craftsmanship leave us in awe.

As we move through the gallery, we stumble upon a contemporary sculpture titled“Ephemeral Embrace.”It is made out of bronze, the intertwined figures convey a fleeting yet intense connection. The artist was able to capture love in a lasting medium and strikes a chord, prompting a shared moment of reflection on the transient beauty of our own journey.

Diego takes my hand as we walk around, each time asking if I would like to stop and take a break. Not only is he concerned about my welfare, but our time here makes me not think about Belén. She will not take the love of my life away from me.

Not again.

She better not fucking dare try. She wanted me to marry Diego because she can’t give him kids. I can give him everything that he needs and so much more.

There’s something on his mind, it is as if as much as I’ve been doing all I can to please him, he’s still keeping something from me.

“I’m going to miss this suite,” I sigh as I take one last look around. Last night was so romantic in the gallery, and Diego was so tender as he would kiss my hand and held me in his arms all night long. Not in a sexual way. But romantically, as if he was happy to have me around, which he said time and time again, even when he thought that I was sleeping.

“The place I kept you locked up like an animal? I doubt it,” he says as he heads to the elevator. He says it so coldly that I worry that our honeymoon time is over, and going back home means going back to the way we were.

“No, you never had me locked up or anything. Besides, this morning has started as a really good day.”

“I have a little something for you,” he says as he hands me a gold box.

“Another plug?”

He chuckles, and for a second it’s as if the old Diego is with me again.

“No,” he whispers as I take off the wrapper to see my ring. The one I thought I’d lost that night is back.

“The same.”

He nods as he takes it out of the box and slips it on my finger. I feel a wave of excitement, as well as the fear of all of the feelings we’ve had together being lost the moment we step foot on the jet back to NY.

I reflect about going out shopping alone when Diego went out for a jog. My first days, I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing something like this, but with the improvement in my Japanese, I was pretty confident to do it.

“I felt brave enough to not only go out, but I bought some things too.”

“A shower curtain instead of a shower hat,” he chuckles.

“Well, it was something to do with a shower. So, in the right direction. Besides, if we ever come back here, then I can practice more.”

“You don’t need to be in the country to learn a language.”

Does this mean our time here has really come to an end? My stomach turns at the idea of it.
