“Come here. Don’t let her take away the one thing you love so much.”

She points at me, and then kisses me on the lips.

“She nearly took away the second thing.”

I shake my head. “I wouldn’t let her.”

No more am I being a gentleman and trying to constrain myself. Abuela said that I had to be back by Monday. It’s only Saturday and I intend to enjoy my wife as much as possible before we leave the suite and join her family in the street festivals of Daganzo.

Daganzo de Arriba comes alive with many neighboring villagers celebrating the bi-annual festivos. They had events yesterday, but because we were at the match, we decided that today we would spend time here, and then tomorrow, I’ll be on a flight back home. Alone. I want to go with Leticia, but I could see from the moment she saw her family that she really misses being with them. I want her to be happy. Besides, what’s a few days apart? Nothing when you intend to spend the rest of your lives together.

Luckily, the weather is just about right at eighty degrees Fahrenheit and not scorching hot as it has been the last fewyears. I spot some of my family friends and neighbors in the crowd at the stadium, something which would never happen in New York. Most of the people I tend to bump into either work for me or want to know me. Here, my family is treated like celebrities. We own most of the land and businesses. Yet, no one treats me like a celebrity; more as if I’m one of them.

I see why Leticia loves it here; she feels as if she fits in, giving more kisses here in the afternoon than she ever will to people she knows in New York. A sharp pang grabs a hold of my heart and twists at the idea of wanting to take it from her, knowing that I won’t see her smile the way she is doing now. Yet, with my money, she can visit regularly. That should be good enough.

Most of the crowd ran out on the street to see thematadores2 run in front of the bulls, a tradition before the events begin. I made a few calls and kept our seats, and I told Leticia, so she can do that. She wasn’t convinced but then left me here while they went out.

“Isn’t it great?” Leticia says as she hands me some sunflower seeds to chew on. Another tradition. Some have bread and ham as they prepare to watch the matadores in their white shirts and matching pants but different color scarves to differentiate from the many towns they belong to.

Cristina is nearly sitting on Luca’s lap. He looks relaxed and not stressed as he always is in New York. I imagine that not only wearing a polo and jeans but having my arm around Leticia reflects the way he’s feeling at the moment.

We’re having fun, enjoying each other’s company, and not talking about our family, something that hasn’t even crossed my mind. I’ll wait for that until Monday.

“How long do you think I will be partying out tonight then?” I ask Leticia.

We’ll head to where the fair ground is, and have something to eat and drink. There’ll be stalls selling local crafts, handmadejewelry, and all types of cuisine. Especially my favorite calamares in a roll. Hmm, I’m anticipating the flavors in my mouth now.

“I think that after we head to the square to get something to eat, you may have a drink or two and then go back to your suite,” Lucas says as he winks at me.

Leticia shakes her head. “No. We are going to enjoy every minute of this. It only happens twice a year and I missed the last one, because I was in New York.”

Wow, she’s on a mission, and she’s right, it’s not like I get to spend as much time here as I used to do.

“All night it is. We’ll head to the square and get something to eat and then we’ll be dancing the night away.”

Lucas raises an eyebrow as if he’s in shock. The matadores enter the ring, and then they start jumping to see how many of them can jump over the bull. I squeeze my wife tight. I don’t want to let her go, not even if it’s just for a few days.

I love the way I am when I’m with her, and I know that the feeling is mutual.

Itake her to her family home in Cobeña. I didn’t want to leave her but I have to be ready for Monday and it looks as if I’ll be sleeping on the jet, seeing as I’ve been partying all night long. The strange thing was seeing her pictures of Enrique Iglesias on her wall. Did she really think they were going to get married?

“Leticia, I need to go home now, you know that, right?”

She nods her head as I cup her face in my hands. I hate leaving her, especially after the time we’ve had here.

“It’s six in the morning.”

She chuckles. “Cristina and I said that you wouldn’t last until one.”

I tickle her, because she’s out of order, and so is that cousin of hers.

“Where do you think she is right now?”

She raises an eyebrow as she leans up and kisses me. That’s all I need for the chemistry between us to erupt. Our kiss deepens and whatever conversation we were having is long forgotten as my tongue entwines with hers and my hands find their way to her neck.

My lips begin to trace their way down her shoulder. She throws her head back and closes her eyes.

I really shouldn’t because I have a jet to get on, but then I can’t resist her, no matter how hard I try. She’s giving herself to me as her body bows and shudders as I tease her with one exquisite kiss at a time. My fingers go to her buttons and begin to work their way down, unwrapping her slowly.
