"Damn female,"he chirped, grabbing for me.

I didn't know why—I had nowhere to go—but with a strength grown from desperation, I slapped his hands away and rushed him. Grabbing him by the waist I brought both of us down before my fists hit his face.

Anger the likes I had never known before made me hit him repeatedly while he struggled to get out from under me.

Suddenly my hair was yanked painfully and I jerked back. A stick, reminding me of a cattle prod hit my side, and I jolted. I bit my tongue so hard as I spasmed on top of the other alien, I tasted blood and nearly choked on it.

"Up!" The alien who hit me pulled me up by the hair, giving me no time to recover. He prodded me forward, repeatedly hitting my naked body with his device.

By the time we reached the elevator I was ready to crawl into a ball and cry. Where were they taking me to now, and why? And where was the other alien, my alien warrior? Did he tell them to take me? And why was I calling him mine? I didn't know anything about him other than that he had been incredibly tender with me while my body had been in… so much need. I refused to think about what he had done to me, whatwehad done, and how amazingly good it had felt.

We entered a chamber that could have easily come from one of Dante's descriptions of hell and I recoiled, but the cattle prod moved me forward.

The wall to my right was lined with green honeycomb-like cells. They pulsed with a yellow light and appeared liquidy as they were stacked one on top of one another. The gray aliens were in the process of filling the honeycombs with other aliens, and humans.

It wasn't until my eyes fell on the screens on the opposing wall that I realized the aliens were feeding their victims to some space-larva creature. In fright and outrage, I screamed and dashed forward.

No way would I allow one of those things to eat me. Hot tears streamed down my face as I used a stretcher to keep two aliens from me.

"No, I'm not going in there. No!"

Was this how I was going to end up? Used up for an alien warrior's pleasure and then fed to some space bug?

This time when the cattle prod hit me, I felt next-to-no pain. I screeched and made a grab for it, but another stick hit me over the head. The blow brought me to my knees.

My arms were pulled behind me and secured, effectively shutting down any resistance I might have still offered.

I was done though. All fight left me when they placed me on one of the many stretchers and the aliens resumed what they had been doing before I disturbed their work.

Resigned to end up as larvae food, I leaned my head back and closed my eyes, still in disbelief that after all that had happened, I ended up here. Nobody would know where I had died or when; there wasn't even anybody who would give a crap.

After leaving foster care, I moved to a different part of San Diego to start over. I wanted to lose myself to the anonymity of my new surroundings, and boy, had I succeeded. I had gone out of my way not to make friends, solely focused on myself. Of course I had acquaintances, went to parties, the beach, an occasional movie with coworkers or a neighbor, but none of them would remember me now. None of them had remembered me when I hid in my office, when all my coworkers left to be with their families. Not that I faulted them for it.

But here I was. Lonely and forgotten and as good as dead.

When nothing gnawed on me, I opened my eyes a little while later and found myself, not inside one of the larvae-filled cells, but in another room.

Five aliens stood around, awaiting me as my stretcher hovered into the center of the room. My upper body andarms were strapped to the stretcher which began to part at my hip level, spreading my legs obscenely.

Outside, some kind of commotion broke out.

"Hurry, get the sample," one of the gray aliens urged.

The surface I lay on tilted my upper body downward and my lower body up. I wanted to scream, but no sound escaped my choked throat.

I nearly fainted when I saw a long object, reminiscent of a turkey baster, coming for me. I tried to squirm, but the bindings held me firmly in place.

The door opened and from my vantage point I couldn't see anything but green liquid that gushed through the air. Grunts of pain and… rage were amplified in the small room.

My heart beat so rapidly, I thought it would break through my ribcage.

I didn't recognize him at first when he finally stepped into my line of sight, his naked upper body was drenched in the strange green liquid, his face contorted with hate and rage.

When he lifted his dripping green sword, I realized it was dripping with the alien equivalent of blood, and thought he was going to bring it down on me next. That's when Iscreamed.

Instead, the sword came down on my bindings rather gently, freeing me. In disbelief I stared at him—my alien warrior. He held out his hand to help me up and I took it.

He came. He came for me! My heart jubilated while my mind tried to dampen my euphoria. He is an alien, Silla. Just like the others. My mind was probably right, but he came to savemeand so far he had shown me nothing but tenderness. And quite honestly I couldn't imagine anything worse happening to me than whatever the gray aliens had had in mind for me.
