"Keep an eye on her," I ordered Ryggs, before I made my way to the cockpit.
The captain pointed at a screen that showed a red field around our ferry.
"Let me talk to their flight control bridge," I ordered. Damn, I didn't have time for this shit.
"Lord Protector Garth, your presence is demanded by King Crough, you are to report to—"
Immediately I recognized Sir Priough's voice and interrupted him. I doubted he had risen King Crough yet from his slumber. "Sir Priough, you have exactly ten ticks—seconds—to lose the magnetic restraints on my ferry, before I order theVyperto shoot a hole into the hangar."
"You, Sir Garth have viola—"
"Ten!"
"You kill—"
"Nine!"
My captain stared at me for another tick, before he sprung into action, contacting theVyperon another comm to instruct them of my orders. He had been among my crew long enough to know I wasn't bluffing, even though he had only recently been promoted to captain.
"You're bluff—"
"Eight!"
"By the gods, Garth—"
"Seven!"
The captain nodded at me, the Vyper would be ready.
"You are crazy!"
"Six!"
"For the sake of the gods, deactivate the magnetic field!" Sir Priough screamed at his males.
"Five!"
"Give me a tick, Garth."
"Four!"
The corners of my lips twitched because I could imagine all too well how Priough was scrambling now to get my demands met.
"You will pay for this!"
"Three!"
I could almost see Priough wiping sweat off his forehead and the image pleased me immensely.
"Two!"
"The field is off," my captain said, staring at me wide-eyed.
No matter how advanced theVyperwas, she wasn't a fully equipped battleship, not like the ones the imperial troops flew. Her shooting a hole into the hangar could have very well meant the end of us, but I had been willing to take the risk. My death would have been an affront to Daryus he wouldn't have been able to ignore. He would have been forced to declare war on the Cryons. So in my book, either outcome would have done the trick.
Being still alive was a bonus and the outcome I had hoped for.
"Get us out of here," I ordered my captain.
