“The girl is being prepared. She will be your motivation today.”

I raise my brows. “For what?”

“You impressed me yesterday with your fighting skills, boy. But maybe that was only beginner’s luck.”

Oh, Jesus Christ.

The fight in the basement yesterday is fresh in my mind. It wasn’t beginner’s luck. I defended myself so I could get back to my girl.

Shaking my head, my thoughts return to be carried away from her and into hell.

Orpheus carried me to a large room inside the basement of this monstrous house. Throwing me on the floor, he untied me, then called Daemon inside.

Daemon motioned me to my feet. Once I was up, he raises his fists, a cocky smile on his face. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Although my body was tired and weak, adrenaline pumped through my veins. I had to make it through this next test and get back to Mackenzie. Failure wasn’t an option, no matter how large Daemon was.

Surprisingly, after I landed several punches and kicks, Daemon nodded at me, respect in his eyes. He gave me a few pointers and we faced off again. I managed to bring him to his knees before he laid me out on my back.

It felt like hours before Orpheus walked over, a slight limp because of Mackenzie stabbing him in the thigh, two bottles of water in his hand. “Impressive, boy. You’ve done well. So far.”

I took the bottle and uncapped it, taking a drink. He spun and started walking away, the limp noticeable. “How’s your leg?” The smirk in my voice is loud and clear. Orpheus pauses, his muscles taut. He glares at me over his shoulder, a scowl on his painted face. He says nothing, heading back to the spot where he’s been observing me.

Orpheus snapped his fingers and a guy walked into the room, muscles ripping with every step. A sinister aura rolled from him in waves as his dark, soulless eyes accessed me from head to toe. He smirked, his gaze sliding to Orpheus. “This kid? You want me to fight him?” He shakes his head, disgust curling his lip. “Give me a fucking challenge, O?—”

“Why the hell is Killian here?” Daemon demanded, glaring at him. “This isn’t necessary, Orpheus,” he snaps, his gaze never straying from him.

Killian throws his head back, his smug laughter filling the room. “Daemon’s butt hurt again. Imagine that.” He shakes his head, a smug smile curling his lips. “Since I intimidate you so badly, how about you both take me on?”

I meet Daemon’s eyes briefly and nod. If Killian wants to fight both of us, let’s fucking go.

He gets the message because he turns to Killian, a cruel smile twisting his lips. “We aren’t going to hold anything back, motherfucker.”

Killian’s grin is vile, a murderous look in his eyes. “I’d expect nothing less.”

Daemon moves closer, staying in front of Killian, while I circle to the back of him. In my peripheral vision, Orpheus leans against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest, an amused grin curling his lip.

When Daemon lunges for Killian, he dodges to the side before spinning and kicking me. I fly against the wall, my back hitting the concrete, knocking the wind out of me.

Meanwhile, Daemon kicks Killian as soon as he whips around, but Killian retaliates, punching Daemon and then kicking him, knocking him back.

The two square up, facing off. Killian lunges for Daemon, who dodges him. As Killian spins around, feeling my presence, my fist connects with his face, before I kick him in the stomach.

Daemon and I have the advantage, taking turns wailing on Killian. I relax, erroneously believing we are kicking his ass. Killian catches Daemon’s leg, hitting him in the balls. Daemon falls to his knees. Before I can blink, Killian has his hand around my throat, lifting me from my feet, and tossing me against the wall as though I’m nothing.

I lay on the cold, concrete floor, seeing stars. I watch as Daemon fakes out Killian, his fist landing in the center of Killian’s stomach. The two appear equally matched, taking turns throwing punch after punch. I watch from my spot on the floor, looking for Killian’s weakness.

Killian throws a powerful right hand that sends Daemon flying into the opposite wall. I jump to my feet as Killian spins around, his murderous eyes on me.

We circle one another, stalking each other like panthers. “I hear you’ve got a hot blonde girl in the attic with you.” Killian’s lip curls into a cruel smile. “Once I end you, I’ll fuck all her holes until she’s screaming and crying before I slit her fucking throat.”

Bloodlust roars through my veins from his vile words, and the room turns red. Killian lunges at me, snarling. Spittle flies from his lips. I dodge at the last second, his momentum carrying him into the wall. My foot connects with his stomach as his palms brace against the wall, stopping his face from plowing into it. Grabbing a fistful of hair, I yank his head back, slamming it against the cement block. He howls, blood running down his face.

But I don’t stop.

His words play inside my head like a broken record, fueling my rage. I slam his head against the wall again and again and when he slumps, I catch him, my fist connecting with his face. Tossing him onto the floor, I straddle him, throwing punches with both hands.

When he lies beneath me, unmoving, I get up, wiping the blood from my face. My eyes lock with Daemon’s, who nods at me, his expression revealing how impressed he is. When I look at Orpheus, he gives me a nod, a grudging look of respect in his eyes.
