Two hours later, I was trudging up and down my bedroom sleeplessly. Accustomed to training and researching at night, I just couldn't find sleep at this, for me, unusual bedtime. In addition, Mr. Baldur always appeared in my thoughts as soon as I closed my eyes. Every time, I could feel his gentle fingers on my neck again.

When we arrived in my bedroom, Aza had helped me open the corsage and then went to her own room. As instructed by my brother, I locked the door. Before that, I had made her promise to knock on the wall that separated our rooms if something was wrong.

At first, I had laid down in bed dressed in my nightgown, but I finally got up again since I was just rolling around.

The books magically attracted me, but I was afraid they might be set up as a trap in my room, and I did not dare to read them or even touch them.

So, I decided to take a dip in my pool. I swam, dove, and looked out at the beach. However, that only intensified my longing for the ocean. Ultimately, I emerged from the water more restless than before, dried off, and put my nightgown back on.

Once again, my eyes fell on the landscape beyond my window.

No one would be able to see me in the dark, I thought and stopped. After all, there was a private footbridge leading directly to the beach, and before anyone could notice my absence, I was already back in my room. Just briefly dipping my bare feet in the sand, listening to the sound of the waves, watching the movement of the water, and breathing in the sea breeze.Ten minutes at the most, then I would turn back,I swore to myself.

Hastily and with an excitedly beating heart, I slipped out of my nightgown and put on a black undergarment with thin straps instead. In this dark garment, I would be far less conspicuous.

On bare feet, I slipped through the sliding door of the large front window onto the balcony. I stopped briefly, held my breath, and listened to the night. Nothing could be heard except the crackling of the torches, which were still burning.

Stealthily, I looked around but could not discover anyone either. So I decided without further ado to take the risk and crept to the footbridge. At its other end, the beach was waiting for me. Excitedly, my heart jumped up and down in my chest. Hopefully, it would not betray me.

Carefully, I put my right foot on the first plank. The wood creaked quietly under my weight. Startled, I turned around to the house, but all the windows remained dark, and no movement could be made out. The faster I moved across the planks, the less noise they would make. At the same time, I had to glide across as easily as a feather.

I gathered all my courage and jumped like a ballerina from one wooden plank to the next until I reached the end of the footbridge.

A staircase led down the last stretch to the beach. Having reached the bottom step, I let my bare toes slide gently into the soft white sand. A pleasant sigh escaped my throat. Then, finally,I saw the sea, which stretched far before my eye and looked as if it were endless.

Laughing, holding the hem of my dress in my hands, I ran. Deeply, my toes dug into dry sand, which changed into wet mud until, finally, the waves softly washed around my feet. The moon was reflected dancing on the surface of the water, and apart from the rhythmic back and forth of the ocean, there was a peaceful silence.

Standing here, I could almost think that there were no problems, violence, or sadness in our world.

With my eyes closed, I remained on the shore, letting my senses wander and enjoying this unique moment that no one, not even the Knights of the Seals, could ever take away from me. In times like these, beautiful memories were the most precious treasure one possessed. They had to be protected and guarded.

The planned ten minutes had certainly already passed, and yet I could not separate myself from this place. I hurriedly walked back to half the beach and lay down on the sand. Above me stretched majestically the night sky, and differently than in the city, one could recognize here clearly the stars and their fullness.

The first shooting star streaked the firmament, and I closed my eyes to make a wish.

When I opened them again, the stars had disappeared. Instead, I looked into a pair of golden eyes that observed me mischievously.

“Enjoying the view, Miss Myrina?” he said formally, with an amused expression in his grin.

"It was beautiful until a few seconds ago," I replied, surprisingly perky. "Unfortunately, that just changed."

“Ouch.” Mr. Baldur contorted his face as if he had been hit.

I lay in the sand as if rooted to the spot and didn't know what to do. I had been caught. Surely, that would bring heavyconsequences to itself. My snippy answers helped very little. Quite the opposite.

So, either I jumped up and quickly ran back to my room, or I stayed lying down and waited to see what happened. I decided on the second option and didn't move from the spot.

Mr. Baldur's gaze slid over my undergarment, which I had pulled far up, his eyes darkening with arousal. Even though it was strangely not at all unpleasant for me to trigger this feeling in him, I unobtrusively tugged at the hem of my dress to bring it at least a little closer to my knees.

The man above me cleared his throat briefly and, in the next moment, was also lying on his back right next to me, looking up at the sky. Surprised, I gazed at him from the side. His body nestled warmly against mine, and a feeling of security flowed through me.

"Can't you find another spot?" I asked incredulously, but simultaneously, unable to move away from him.

“No, I can’t. For one thing, this is the best place to watch the stars at night, and for another, it’s my beach. And you know my name is Tanael, Myrina. Call me that," he countered triumphantly without looking at me.

Instead, he pointed up to the sky.

“Do you actually know the fairy tale of the night sky that people told their children as a bedtime story in ancient times?”
