“Yes.” He tugs at the cover and stops with a smile. “I'm just happy. Love you.” He rolls over, and Kristine smiles at me over his head.

Thank you, she mouths, her eyes brimming with tears as I place the ring on her finger, sealing our engagement.

I shake my head. I'll always feel like I don't deserve them. I'll always work hard to show them how grateful I am they picked me.

EPILOGUE

KRISTINE

“Mom,thanks again for staying with the kids,” I say.

My mother waves her hand to downplay the matter. “No problem, honey. Go and enjoy the evening with your husband.”

I smile and hug her affectionately.

“You look beautiful,” my mother tells me proudly.

I kiss her cheeks. “Thank you. See you tomorrow, mom. I love you.”

“I love you more, sweetie.”

She says goodbye, closing the door behind her where the little ones rest on the big double bed.

Ethan and I have been married for a year today. To celebrate, we decided to take a family trip to Hawaii. We first thought of Paris, where we actually celebrated our wedding, but Asher was so excited about the idea of swimming with the dolphins, and Ethan couldn't say no to it.

Actually, he never denies our son anything.

This year has been quite an adventure for us. A great challenge that we have taken on with love. Shortly after accepting Ethan's marriage proposal, I found out that I was pregnant.

Now, we have another little boy for who Ethan would give his life and who Asher adores, and he loves being the big brother.

My mother, as luck would have it, decided to join us on the trip. She wanted to get away with the kids and clear her thoughts after losing my father, who passed away last year. She is slowly recovering from the loss, but luckily she and Ethan get along wonderfully.

Walking through the wide corridors of the luxury hotel, I pause for a moment, observing my image in one of the room's mirrors. I'm wearing a tight gold-beaded dress that highlights my figure. My hair is tied back, and dark, sensual makeup highlights the color of my eyes.

My smile comes back to me as I look in the mirror and walk away, exiting the hotel and crossing a small path that leads to a private area that belongs to the club.

Inside, the music is raucous and striking. Couples dance on the crowded dance floor, and lights move across the scene.

I cross glances with some of the strangers roaming the place as I make my way to the bar. While I order a drink, I rub my neck with my fingers and feel a bit of the dampness clinging to my skin from the warm atmosphere of the place.

“Are you alone, gorgeous?” inquires a man, tall and blond, who approaches me out of nowhere.

“No. Actually, she's not,” states Ethan, who also appears out of nowhere.

His usual commanding personality is highlighted by his imposing outfit. His dark suit is doing its best to accentuate the thick, unruly hair, and his eyes, which seem to be cast in black, fixate on the stranger.

The blond is tall, but evidently not as tall as Ethan. “I'm sorry, and you are?”

“Her husband,” Ethan states, and I flash a smile at the stranger, who suddenly pales.

He quickly turns and walks away, and I burst out laughing. “Poor guy,” I whisper.

“I pity him,” Ethan states, taking a drink. “He took a liking to you, just like half of the bar, as soon as he saw you arrive.”

“I hope your luck is the same,” I tease.

“It is,” Ethan scoffs. “But my luck is better than his, or anyone's. Because I'm the one who will be escorting you back to your room tonight.”
