Larissa

I swallowed a sigh when the doorbell rang. I hated being around people and no good ever came from it. Except from the rare few, and even then it was hard on me.

But still, I needed to get the place fixed up if I was going to make this my real base of operations. Most would have called it a home, but I’d never had one of those in the loving, warm sense, but only a place of horrors.

So base of operations it was.

I pulled up the hood of my ankle-length long-sleeved cotton hoodie dress after I threw my hair up so it was hidden. I took in a slow breath and reminded myself that Amelia knew these guys.

They’d been part of the crew who had done the renovations to the place she’d moved into after I’d found it and used it as a safe house with Thora’s help.

And they knew about us, so I didn’t have to hide.

Well, any more than normal.

I opened the door to find a gorgeous blond Adonis on my porch. He was much taller than my five-five, almost a foot taller, like six-four probably.

He was… There was a lot of girth going on with his muscles and build.

His hair was long and wavy on top, pushing back with that wet, bedhead look, but cut short on the sides and faded. I thought that was the right term for it. He had bright pear-green eyes that I swore saw right into my soul they were so piercing.

And then I realized there were actually three of him.

“Holy fuck,” I squeaked, hurrying to close the door out of instinct.

“It’s okay, sparkles, we’re not here to hurt you,” a deep voice said gently.

“Sparkles?” another one asked.

“Did you see the way her big eyes sparkled? Yeah, seemed fitting,” he replied.

“Larissa? Larissa Carter? Amelia sent us,” I thought a different one tried, but they all really sounded alike. “Did she not tell you there was more than one of us?”

“Not triplets,” I muttered, knowing they weren’t like clones come to get me or something crazy even if my brain tended to go there first. I’d had reason to in the past, so I could even forgive myself that. “Or you were so big with so many muscles.”

“Thanks?” he chuckled.

“Well, yes, they’re appealing but also terrifying to let you in,” I grumbled, letting my forehead thunk against the door. That sounded so stupid.

“We’d never hurt you, sparkles, I promise.”

I felt my cheeks heat at the nickname. I’d never had someone call me a pretty-sounding name before.

Still, I couldn’t let their charm get to me. “What are your names?”

“Jackson, Jesse, and Jared Baker. Do you want to see ID?”

I texted Amelia the names and confirmed it was them. “Please?”

I opened the door a crack and a wallet came through showing me Jackson Baker, so he must have been the first one.

“Sorry about that, please come in.” I pulled the door open the rest of the way and blinked at the first one again before looking down at his license. “Nineteen, wow, young.”

“Yes, because you’re so old,” he chuckled, taking back his wallet.

“Thirty-two,” I said with a shrug. “You just don’t expect recommended licensed contractors who take out-of-state jobs to be so young.” I blinked at them when they all came in. “And witch-born. Wow, triplets with magical blood?” I let out a whistle.
