“I don’t hate you,” she promised. “I’m so sorry I hurt you.”

“I’m sorry it wasn’t real.”

She moved her hand over mine. “It was. It felt… Different, but I thought… I don’t know.”

“We don’t have to talk about it now,” I told her, feeling selfish for bringing it up when she’d just been through hell.

“You don’t want to?” she asked, sounding hurt as she pulled away and took another drink.

“I want to, and I want you so much I ache, but you just went through something horrible. We don’t have to do this right now.”

“I want to. If you do.”

“I do.”

“Do you, um, like me like Jesse does or is it only physical?”

“I know we all like you in an intimate way,” I clarified. “I want to be your lover, not just your friend.”

“And Jesse? I want that with him too.”

“Too?” I breathed, my heart racing at hearing her say that. “Sparkles, are you saying you like me the same?”

She nodded, ducking her head. “I thought it was sort of more big brotherly even if you’re younger, but it’s not. I felt safe with you, and I can trust you to handle things, like that bubble of protection around me.

“But it wasn’t just how passionate it was, but so,sointense. The way you touched and held me made me feel not only safe but treasured like I was everything you needed.”

“I do feel that way,” I confessed, running my hand over her thigh. “And Jesse? Jared?”

She opened her mouth then closed it. “I’ll answer honestly if you promise to hear me when I say one isn’t better than the other.” She waited until I nodded. “It’s like you heal the fear. I want to be wrapped in your arms and you make all the bad go away, know you treasure me asworthbeing safe. Jesse sees who I am, can move at my pace and not push.

“And Jared sees me for what I can be, not pushing to where I should be, or he wants me, but it’s like three parts of healing and affection. He’s playful and can coax me out of the house and my hiding. Jesse can crawl in there with me and just be. And you’re the one I’d want to hide under, knowing you’re fine with me snuggling up to you. I mean, if we can get over your pushy side and just accept that’s me.”

“I think we can,” I promised, touched beyond words at what she said. “I’ve been so desperate to connect with you and not just be the guy who handles the work stuff, I had no idea you saw things that way.”

She nodded. “I didn’t mean to make it seem only cold and contractor stuff. You make me feel like this could be myhomeand I deserve one, not just running or horrors.”

“I’d like that,” I whispered, brushing my lips over her cheek. “And earlier?”

She shivered. “That was intense, and I feel like such a bitchy slut that I want you to carry me off to the shower because I ache from it and am still dirty.”

I swallowed loudly, not having thought about my seed in her this whole time. And then I flinched. “We didn’t—”

“We’re protected,” she promised. “I have a charm. I’m glad you guys, um, aren’t into breeding witches. That’s been my experience with men with magical blood. Other LLL witches have said the same.”

“You’re not a fucking dog to breed,” I growled. “If you want kids one day in thedistantfuture, that’s a discussion to have, but all I can think about is that shower and maybe a date. That’s probably the wrong order, but it’s where my mind is.”

She nodded, taking another drink of her Gatorade. “You don’t mind? Um, maybe without all the lights? I’m not—”

“Whatever you need, sparkles,” I promised, picking her up and carrying her to the working shower. “Maybe we should get a swank tub for the master bathroom so you can soak.”

“Why—oh, after sex. Right, yeah, um, it will get, um, more.”

“Yes, my performance was lacking,” I drawled.

“Hey, don’t demean it,” she grumbled. “I felt sexy for making you act like that. I never feel sexy.”

“You should,” I muttered as I sat her on the bathroom counter. “You completely owned my body. A virgin just hopes he doesn’t act like a goober his first time.”
