“Yeah, we’re rare, but we’re not female, so we’re not worth much,” the second one grumbled.

“You’re kidding, right?” I checked as I locked the door behind them, shocked when they all gave me confused looks. “You’re triplets with magical blood. You’re worthwaymore than a witch or three girls born.

“You’re like the golden goose of familiars. Any witch bonded to you wouldn’t just have the power of three, buttriplethat, three times the power as you’re identical triplets.”

“Holy shit,” Jackson whispered. “That must have been why Amelia immediately scooped us up.”

Anger surged through me. “Amelia wouldnever—”

“To protect us, sparkles,” he clarified, waiting until I nodded. “I’m Jackson, the next one is Jesse, and the youngest is Jared.”

“Hi.” I gave a little wave and wanted to go back to being hidden, squirming when they stared at me.

“Aren’t you hot in that?” Jesse asked.

I shrugged, pulling the sleeves over my hands. “It’s light. It’s fine, Amelia said you could get the air conditioning going. Whether I stay here for good or it’s a haven for another LLL witch, it needs to be fixed.”

“Okay, anything besides the AC you’re focused on?” Jackson asked me.

I blinked at him before ducking my head. “Um, no, she said you’d know what to do and fix stuff. So like, um, inspect it all?”

“We can start there,” he agreed, and I felt relieved.

I nodded, leading them out of the entryway and back to my huge setup in the living room. “So I need warning if you’re going to mess with the electricity or utilities since I’m normally in the middle of stuff that would cost me hours if the power cuts out.”

“Holy crap, nice setup,” one of them muttered as they took in my hard drives and monitors. “So you’re the one who’s the hacker and does all the computer stuff to protect the light witch network, right?”

I didn’t answer, folding my leg under me as I sat in my chair and tucking my other under me once they were crossed. They came closer, and I ducked my hood down when Jackson leaned over so we were almost at eye level, looking at the aerial shots I had up.

“Where is this?” he asked quietly.

“You guys have your own tools and stuff, right?” I muttered instead of answering. “You can get started?”

“Yeah, we have our own tools, sparkles,” he chuckled. “Sorry, we’ll try not to be nosy.”

“At least until you get to know us better,” Jesse or Jared added.

“That’s quite the collection of Pepto-Bismol you got going there.”

I heard what sounded like someone smacking a person. “We just said we won’t be nosy. Leave her be.”

I sighed in relief, annoyed I hadn’t thought to hide the bottles or clean up my space. My stomach churned with nerves, and after they left me be, I took a chug of the pink stuff and got to work.

A few hours went by and something moved into my vision, making me jump.

“Sorry, sparkles, I was trying not to startle you,” Jackson said gently as he held his hands up in surrender. “You seemed all focused so—how is the best way to get your attention?”

I thought about it and the way he did it moving behind my monitors was best. “The way you did it. It was a slight startle, not a full scare.”

His lips twitched. “Well, I’m glad.” He moved around the large sectional desk my setup was on and put a notepad down before leaning his hip on the desk when he saw there were no other chairs. “You seem nervous when we’re all crowding you, so I thought I’d just come talk to you a bit if that’s okay?”

“Yes, thanks,” I whispered. “Sorry.”

He shrugged. “We’re a lot as a group. A pretty little thing like you should be careful of guys.”

I went to argue that I wasn’t pretty anymore, but he didn’t know about the scars, so why get into it? I’d never felt pretty ever, so it was instinct to want to correct it.

“What do we need to talk about?”
