“Just get what you want, Karoline. We have wasted enough time this morning and have classes in twenty minutes,” Gareth bites out.

Callum steers Kennedy toward the back of the room. Leaning down so Karoline doesn’t hear me. “Do you want to go with them, and I will grab you some breakfast?”

She nods in response. Just before she steps away, I catch her.

“What do you want to eat?”

“Oh,” looking over her shoulder at her sister. Her eyes widen in surprise. Looking behind us, my own eyes bug out at the amount of food Karoline has amassed on the small tray in a short period of time. Turning back to face Kassidy, her cheeks are flushed in embarrassment.

“Coffee, please, lots of cream and sugar. Maybe some pancakes and sausage?” Kassidy responds, placing a hand over her belly. “I am not sure I reallywantto eat, but today is going to be a long day.”

“Alright, I will bring it over. Go ahead and sit.”

She doesn’t waste any time, rushing to the back of the room and sitting at the table Kennedy and Callum have claimed.

Starting through the food line, Ashton sidles up to me, speaking low so no one else can hear us.

“Thank you for having Kassidy’s back,” Ashton’s tone, while starting out polite, turns frosty in a heartbeat. “I am not sure what game you are playing, but you better keep it up, at least until Karoline leaves town. She showed up last night at the apartment totally unannounced. That girl is a piece of work.”

My head starts spinning in different directions from his statement. What happened last night? Is this why Kassidy wouldn’t take my call? Pushing my questions aside for now, knowing that it’s not the time to voice them, I pull some food onto a tray.

Karoline makes a spectacle of herself, flirting with any swinging dick in the room. Leaving the four of us to handle the food trays, Karoline slowly makes her way to the table where Kennedy, Kassidy, and Callum are seated.

“Someone please punch me in the face,” Rodney groans.

Opening my mouth to ask what he is talking about, an all too familiar perfume wafts from the doorway.

“Please, someone, anyone, tell me I am still asleep and having a nightmare,” Ashton adds to Rodney’s comment.

“Can we get a break?” I add, afraid of the pending confrontation between the Pussy Patrol and Karoline Heartwell.

Danica, Simone, Celeste, and Trish waltz into the room. Their steps falter at the sight of Karoline moving from man to man. Apparently, she got bored waiting for us to deliver breakfast to the table.

“What the fuck?”

“Who the hell is that?”

“What the fuck does she think she is doing?”

“I don’t fucking think so.”

Each one of them has an opinion of Kassidy’s sister, glaring at her.

Tossing a few more things onto my tray, I start heading back to the table. The Pussy Patrol can be vicious, and Kassidy doesn’t need to be a target because of her sister. Hell, maybe this will work out in everyone’s favor, and Karoline will hightail it out of town.

Walking past my teammates, Zanko gives me a questioning look. I give him a slight shake of my head, similar to one I mightgive him from the mound. He nods in return, knowing we will talk later.

Reaching the table, I set the tray down, occupying the seat next to Kassidy.

“Are you okay?” I ask her.

“I am not sure yet,” she mumbles, reaching for her coffee.

Gareth, Rodney, and Ashton catch up to us, setting the trays down. We all try and ignore the pending confrontation between Karoline and the mean girls.

Surprisingly, Karoline takes the empty seat across the table from Kassidy, grabbing some food from the center of the table and pulling it in front of her. Taking a bite of eggs, her eyes bounce between Kassidy and me as she chews. Waving her fork between the two of us, her voice carries through the room.

“You two don’t really look like a couple.”
