He hums, the deep rumble coming from his chest, reverberating through mine. “Talia,” he says, voice deep and low as he runs a hand up my thigh, pressing his impressive length against my center, “please,” he kisses my jaw, “come,” he grinds against me, and I think I might combust before he even finishes the sentence, “home,” he tilts my chin up to expose my mouth more to him as he consumes my lips with his, his tongue dipping in to meet mine. When he pulls away, he finishes his sentence, “with me.”

By the time he’s done working his magic, I’m completely out of breath, practically panting as he caresses lazy strokes up my thigh.

“Sorry, I’m busy tonight,” I say through my short breaths.

He laughs, the sound sending fire between my legs where he’s so close I can practically feel him entering me. “Then clear your schedule, gorgeous. I’ve got far better plans for you.

At that, I can’t help but smile. “I’ll put it into consideration.”

“Mmm.” He stares at me fondly, his fingers breaching the hem of my dress. “I amobsessedwith you in this dress. Too bad it’s going to end up on my floor later.”

Before I can make my own remark, we’re interrupted by another couple I don’t recognize rounding the corner, searching for the same thing we were.

“Oh!” She stops in her tracks, clutching the arm of her date tightly as she laughs. “Sorry.”

Kay gently sets me back on my feet. I hardly bother to straighten my dress. It must just be the romance in the air. “Don’t worry about it. We were about to head back inside anyway.” He takes my hand and guides me away as the giggling couple takes our spot.

As we walk away, I lean into Kay. “Do you know if they were here for the bride, or the groom?”

“I have no idea.”

“Oh.” I giggle, feeling equally intoxicated. “Do you think they’re crashing?”

“Who knows.” He tugs me along to the patio. “What can I get my beautiful date to drink? Champagne? A gin and tonic?”

“A whiskey.”

“A woman after my own heart.” He releases my hand, walking backward a step to stare at me before turning toward the bar.

“You look pretty happy for someone who was pissed at him a couple days ago,” Gia says, appearing behind me.

I raise a brow at her, crossing my arms. “Says the ‘hard to get’ queen. I’ve watched you string Leo along with teasing alone.”

“Not the same thing.” She drinks from her champagne flute. “And I’m not looking for criticism.”

“Then don’t criticize me.”

“It’snota criticism. It’s an observation,” Gia flicks her hair and turns away from me. “Make the most of tonight, Talia.” She shoots me a wink, and then she’s back in Leo’s company. He pulls her in with one arm and the two of them beam at each other.

The couple of the hour still seems to be off somewhere on the beach. I don’t blame them.

Kay returns, glasses in hand, handing me one. “What did our fearless leader want?” he asks, more lighthearted than I’ve ever seen him.

“To be cryptic and annoying, as always.”

Kay laughs, tossing an arm over my shoulder and guiding me to a table. “Sounds like Gia.”

The sun finally sets, darkening the sky, and the happy couple returns, Nyla’s hair looking a little too disarrayed to have been only from an innocent walk on the beach. But the two of them look absolutely smitten. There must be something in the air tonight.

Kay and I finish our drinks as everyone filters into the club for the reception. The first dance comes on, and Kieran twirls Nyla onto the dance floor as everyone watches them be happily in love. I can’t take my eyes off them, and neither can anyone else. The entire wedding has been such a lovely event to watch unfold, and I feel myself being swept up into its perfection, especially as the whisky warms through me. When Kay trails his fingers down my spine, I feel extra heat pool in other places.

Leaning into me, he asks, “Will you dance with me, Talia Hale?”

He offers his hand, and I slide my fingers into his.

“It would be an honor to dance with you, Kay Beckett.”

His eyes burn as he leads me onto the floor for the second song. Pressing my front to his, we close as much space between us as possible as I wrap my fingers around the back of his neck, his hand gently holding my waist.
