“Let’s go,” I whisper.

Chapter Twenty-Three: Talia

We pull up to a two-story house on the Carbon Beach Malibu beachfront. It matches the other opulent houses surrounding it, wealth and California architecture at its finest.

“Why are we here and not the House of Color?”

Kay turns off the car. “Because this is the house I just bought.”

I peer up at it through the windshield of the car. “What?”

He opens the door, fluidly rounding the hood of the car and opening mine. “Come on, I want to show it to you.”

I take his hand, so warm in mine, his touch feeling so fleeting now. I want to drink in every moment.

Unlocking the door, he guides me into the house, and already I can tell I favor it far more than Kieran’s. Where Kieran’s place feels a bit business formal, this house feels like a home. It’s warmer, cozier, with dark wooden accent walls and earth toned furniture. A stone fireplace reaches up one wall, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the ocean.

“Come,” Kay says, guiding me to the stairs, which are stained the same lovely warm chestnut brown as the rest of the wood. As we ascend, my heartbeat quickens in anticipation for where I know we’re headed. But even this moment is one I want to soak in, wading through every second as Kay undoes his tie, loosens his collar, and glances back at me over his shoulder with a grin that could melt anything left of me.

He leads me to the doorway of a bedroom filled with nothing but a four-poster king size bed covered in deep burgundy bedding that matches the wood in such a lovely way that I want to curl up and spend all of my time here. To walk out on to the balcony and overlook the ocean in the morning in nothing but his t-shirt, Kay coming up to wrap his arms around me. But right now, he’s wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into the bedroom.

His lips tilt downward, meeting mine in a desperate kiss that ignites every inch of me. “I have a gift for you.” He pulls away, but not much. Even so, the space aches. He reaches into his pocket, and the familiar sound of keys jingle as he holds up a set. Grabbing my hand, he places them in it, curling my fingers around them. “The place is yours while I’m away.”

“What?” I gasp, staring down at the keys. My head begins to spin. “You bought me ahouse?”

He grips my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “I bought myself a house. You are simply invited to use it as much as you want. To live in it, if you’d like.”

“What’s the difference?”

“There really isn’t one.” Another dazzling smile. It makes me forget the concerns I even had about the keys.

A deep sadness overtakes me as I stare down at the keys. “I don’t want you to go,” I whisper.

“I know.” His voice shifts to something more deadly for a moment, the rumble of it reverberating through his chest and across my skin. “But I’m going to make it up to you tonight.” I look back up at him, his hand sliding into the hair at the nape of my neck. “I promise you, Talia, you won’t be forgetting about me anytime soon.”

“I could never forget about you.”

Our lips collide. So do our bodies. Kay doesn’t hesitate to reach down and sweep my legs out from under me, wrapping them around his waist as he carries me over to the bed. We don’t break our kiss even as we move, not until he drops me onto the bed. But even that space doesn’t last long. He slides in between my legs, pushing me up the bed as his lips devour mine, our tongues dancing with each other, hands traveling all over.

“I want to feel your mouth on me,” I say in between long, drawn-out kisses.

“My mouthison you,” he murmurs, deepening the kiss again.

“Allof me.”

“Mmm.” The deep sound rumbles through his chest. He pulls away, hair disheveled from my hands running through it, and he’s the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. “Ms. Hale, are you telling me what to do?”

I bite down on my bottom lip. “I am.”

“How can I not oblige when you look at me like that?” Kay kisses my throat, then my collarbone, starting a trail of kisses over my exposed skin. On his way down, he pulls the strap of my dress down in one fluid movement, exposing my chest. Pushing my skirt up my thighs, he puts his mouth against the sensitive skin on the inside of my legs, moving slowly, tantalizingly, toward the center as I watch him, perched up on my elbows. “Do you like watching me devour you?”

“Yes,” I breathe, the anticipation of having his mouth on me again building as he nips at my skin.

He sinks down to his knees. “It’s my turn to hear you beg.” He kisses me on my innermost thigh, lighting me on fire. My head tilts back in pleasure.

“Please, Kay.”

“Pleasewhat?” He licks me lightly down the center, too light for it to mean anything, but just enough for my body to convulse with pleasure.
