I feel him press up against me, giving me exactly what I want every time I ask for it. He slides into me slowly, his length filling every bit of me, and it feels so good I never want to leave this.

“You feel so fucking good.”

He begins to fuck me like he means it, and we both lose ourselves in the pleasure of each other. He pulls me back onto him, bringing me flush against his chest as he leans back on his heels. He slows his thrusts and wraps a possessive hand around my stomach, one sliding up to my throat, though his touch is gentle, warming. I lean back into him.

“Stay with me, Eve.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” And I mean it.

He begins to leave a trail of kisses down the back of my neck. “I need you, Eve,” he breathes onto my skin, the sensation better than anything sex could give me as his words trail down my neck in a tingling sensation.

“I need you, too.”

“I have something to tell you,” he says breathlessly, guiding my hips off of him. He keeps me positioned against his chest as we lean into the down, me in his arms, him holding me, an arm behind my head.

“What is it?” I ask, similarly breathless from the sex.

He seems hesitant to answer, his eyes searching my face. “I knew about you before the games.”

“What do you mean?” I straighten, leaning up on an elbow. I didn’t think I’d ever met Laurence. Then again, I was with a lot of men. I hoped he wasn’t someone I’d forgotten, but I didn’tthink he would be. He was seared into my brain the first time I saw him.

“I mean that I knew about Carrick. Because I knew who Vaughn was and who he was connected to.”

“So you were… also tracking me?” I still didn’t have all of the details of his informant business, only that he befriended Vaughn to get to the Echelon Society, but even that I gathered from his phone calls as he relayed the events of the Games.

Laurence shook his head. “No, I just knew you were his next target for recruitment. This was before I’d noticed his pattern related to his crimes. But the games weren’t the first time I saw you.”

I was silent as I let him continue, wondering where this was going, wondering if my fears were, in fact, based in something true. That he only gained interest in me during the games.

“I was curious to know what types of people they recruited for the games. I understand that they were very picky, very specific in their choosing. Women with a criminal history or ties to crimes to blackmail more easily, women who fit a beauty standard and who are in need of money. I learned that the games didn’t always used to be like that… that it was shaped into something ugly when it became a game of controlling Players for fun.” Laurence shook his head, disgusted.

I was silent, contemplating his words, thinking about how I got into them in the first place. I fit the bill perfectly, and Carrick exploited all of it.

“So while I was meeting Vaughn, one day, we ran into Carrick. I thought it was rather strange he didn’t remember me once I got to the island, but I think that’s giving him too much credit. He walked out of a hotel while we were walking from lunch, and just behind him, I saw you leave. I wouldn’t have guessed you were associated with each other at all if it wasn’t for the look you gave Carrick.

“It was a look of knowing. A look of disappointment. I couldn’t figure out if it was at yourself, or at him. And then your eyes briefly flicked to me, and I watched them soften. For a stranger. But there was so much behind your eyes. There always has been. It’s what drew me in from the start. From there, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Couldn’t stop thinking about that look in your eyes. And then, at the Bidding, somehow, they found mine again in the crowd, and I knew I was about to take the biggest risk on my mission to have you.”

I shook my head in disbelief. “That’s crazy, Laurence.”

“Still not as crazy as I am about you.” He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “And you only continued to amaze me throughout the games with your tenacity, your gentleness, your rebelliousness… you are theboldestwoman I’ve ever met. I can only hope to meet your standards every day.”

My fear seems so silly in light of his confession. I let it wash away in the tide of his words and run my fingertips along his jaw. He clenches it, his eyes closing as he sighs.

“You have no idea how good it feels when you touch me.”

“I think I have an idea.” I lean in and kiss him gently.

After another moment of laying in each other’s arms, I ask, “So what do we do now?”

“Looking to bust some more billionaire’s balls?”

“Aren’tyoua billionaire?”

“Yeah, but the good kind.”

“Oh, I see.” I position myself on top of him, and he holds me by the hips. “Surely there’snothingnefarious about you.”

His hands slide down to my ass. “Absolutely not. I’m a true gentleman.” He smirks. “But to answer your question, the Echelon Society isn’t the only corrupt underground group of billionaires. From what I can tell, you’re an undeniable asset to my cause. That is, if you can handle playing with the devils again.”
