“Thanks,” I say, timidly stepping towards the opposite sofa and perching on the ledge.

“Cream and sugar,” Gunner grunts, and I lift one eyebrow in surprise.

“How’d you know?” I ask, flipping open the plastic lid before lifting the cup to my lips.

Gunner rolls his eyes. “You church girls are all the same.”

I automatically feel myself bristle. “And what would you know about church girls?” I snap back.

Gunner sneers at me. I wish I could slap the arrogance off of his face.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

At that very moment, the door to Gunner’s man cave bursts open. He rolls his eyes towards the ceiling and lets out a long sigh as Zeke and Rex saunter inside, laughing and chatting amongst themselves.

“Ever consider knocking?” Gunner calls brusquely, looking over his shoulder.

“Good morning, Gunner,” Zeke chuckles, making a beeline towards the seat beside me on the couch.

“Good morning, gorgeous,” Zeke smiles down at me, flashing his blinding grin. He’s dressed in a black t-shirt, leather vest, and jeans, but now I can see the colorful tattoos that cover his arms.He runs his fingers through his tousled blonde hair as he collapses next to me, casually flinging his arm along the back of the sofa.

“Good morning,” I reply, trying not to show evidence of absolute awe on my face. Zeke licks his lips and smiles suggestively at me. He’s so good-looking it should be a sin.

“Mornin’, Goldie,” Rex says, smiling at me with those warm green eyes. He smoothly seats himself next to Gunner and I notice that he’s dressed in the same kind of uniform as Zeke, if you could call it that. Black tribal tattoos adorn the olive skin of his arms, but I try not to ogle.

“Mornin’,” I smile back at him. I can’t help myself. I love the new nickname.

For a moment, this seems almost normal. Just sitting around in the morning, waking up with some coffee. But I have to remember that these men are monsters, even if they are all superb-looking.

“What’s the plan today, boss?” Zeke leans back on the couch cushions, shifting closer to me. He smells like leather and the slightest hint of cologne.

Gunner grunts and drains the last contents of his styrofoam cup.

“We’re meeting with Warden at noon,” He replies, crushing the white cup in one of his gigantic hands. Gunner frowns and rises from the sofa to stalk off. He throws the crumpled coffee cup into the wastebasket.

“Then we have plenty of time for some breakfast,” Rex says. He focuses in on me with his charming smile. “How about it?”

I grimace, thinking of the queasiness in my stomach.

“Greasy breakfast is the hangover cure,” Rex says, cocking his head.

“Okay. If you say so,” I finally relent.

Rex grins and leans forward, readying himself to stand up.

“I’ll be back,” He promises, sweeping out of the room before anyone can say anything more.

I hear Gunner snort and Zeke tilts his head towards me.

“Rex absolutely loves to cook,” Zeke explains. “He’ll whip something up for us in no time.”

I nod like this is the most natural thing in the world, but inside I’m in complete shock. Rex, Mr. Tall, Dark, and Dangerously Handsome, a Grim Riderlikes to cook?

Zeke reaches over to run his fingers down my arm. “What else can we do to make you feel better?” He sweeps his eyes down my body suggestively, and I feel like I’ve been struck by lightning.

I barely trust myself to speak. I’ve got to put some distance between myself and these men. Plus, I feel downright filthy. My mind races as I come up with a solution.

“I could really use a shower,” I answer, smiling. “And maybe something fresh to wear,” I add, glancing down at the black dress that I’m still wearing from the night before.
