“Who are they?”

Rex leans back to gaze at my face with furrowed brows.

“They’re not old ladies.”

Rex’s face breaks into a grin. “They’re sweetbutts.”

It’s my turn to look around in confusion.

“You know,” Rex chuckles. “Club bunnies.”

I stare at him blankly.

“House mouse?”

“What?” I almost laugh.

“Mamas. Sheep,” Rex laughs and I shake my head. He’s speaking a language that I don’t understand. Rex finally leans in to whisper in my ear.

“They’re club sluts.”

I nod my head. That’s some terminology that I can understand, but I’m afraid to ask anything more.

The music gets a little louder, and the crowd becomes a little rowdier. As promised, the party is becoming more wild as the night goes on.

It’s dark outside now, but still well-lit in the courtyard area thanks to the floodlights lining the edges of the buildings. I notice high barbed wire fences lining the perimeter in the distance. The Grim Riders seem to be serious about security.

“Want to try a beer?” Zeke asks, offering me a swig from his freshly opened can.

“Sure,” I answer. I take a sip of the cold, bubbly liquid. At first, all seems well, but then I’m hit with the bitter aftertaste. I can’t help but make a face, but to my credit, I swallow it down.

“Oh, yuck!” I groan.

Zeke and Rex chuckle at my reaction and the beer can is still in my hand when Lila approaches, wobbling in her high heels.

“Does someone need to get her a juice box?” Lila asks, batting her fake eyelashes.

I stare at her blankly. I won’t allow her the satisfaction of reacting to her joke.

“Oh, Lila. You know beer is an acquired taste!” Zeke replies evenly, but rolls his eyes.

“Lila,” Rex nods at her curtly. “Have you met Goldie?”

Lila’s lip curls upward. “Yes, last night,” She answers, waving one manicured hand dismissively. She turns towards Zeke and twists her mouth into a smile. “Are you going to play tonight, Zeke?”

Zeke smiles shyly in response, and I think I can see the hints of a blush on his cheeks. “Nah, not tonight.”

Lila’s lower lip protrudes in a clownish pout. “Oh, come on. For me?” She flutters her lashes and leans forward to allow Zeke a glimpse of her cleavage.

“No, I can’t tonight,” Zeke answers, turning his head to look at me and smile. “I’m really busy.”

From the corner of my eye, I can see Lila roll her eyes and stomp off. The way Zeke is staring at me is about to make me melt.

“You play?” I ask, breaking the magic of the moment. “What instrument?”

“Oh, guitar, bass, drums,” Zeke answers, shrugging. “And I sing.”

“Wow,” I answer, somewhat in awe. These guys are constantly surprising me.
