“I’m serious,” Rex persists, stroking my cheek. “Goldie, look at me.”

Reluctantly, I open my eyes.

“We’re willing to go slow. We would never do anything that you’re uncomfortable with.”

“Okay,” I answer, a small smile forming on my lips.

“I would wait for you forever,” Zeke adds dreamily and I can’t help but giggle like a schoolgirl.

“I’m serious,” Zeke pouts. “I knew it the moment I saw you.”

“In my dad’s church?” I ask, incredulous.

“Yes. That very moment,” Zeke replies, his blue eyes staring into mine. He licks his lips, as if in anticipation. “Whenever you’re ready for more, just let us know.”

“We can wait,” Rex adds, trailing his fingers down my arm.

This gentleness is the opposite of what I was expecting. These guys are always surprising me. I feel warm and cherished between Rex and Zeke’s muscular bodies, but the mood is interrupted by Gunner clearing his throat.

“I hate to break this up,” Gunner grumbles, still perched on the stool but looking down at his cell phone. “But we’ve gotta ride.”

Rex winks at me while he props himself up on one elbow. “Let’s get up, baby,” He says. “We’ll have plenty of more time later.”

Zeke is already sitting up, but he turns his body towards me. “We could have all the time in the world,” He says dreamily. “If you stayed forever.”

I let out a little gasp at the thought. “I couldn’t!”

“Goldie,” Rex replies, one side of his mouth curling into a crooked smile. “You can do whatever the hell you want.”

Chapter 19

Marigold

“We’re late,” Gunner grumbles, taking the lead with his long strides. Rex follows just behind him, shaking his head in response, but Zeke squeezes my hand and makes a face.

I stifle my giggle. The guys act like brothers, always joking around, and I wish that my family were more like it. I’ve even almost gotten used to Gunner’s grumpiness.Almost.

Gunner swings open a heavy metal door with a loud creak and the late afternoon sunshine beams inside.

“Where are we going?” I ask warily, still hand-in-hand with Zeke as we follow Rex and Gunner outside.

“We’ve gotta ride,” Gunner replies, turning around as he rolls his eyes. “The rest of the guys left without us. We’ve gotta catch up.”

“Relax, bro,” Rex says, slapping Gunner on the back. “It won’t be a problem.”

When I’m led to the compound’s massive garage, I realize I didn’t take Gunner’s words as literally as I should have.

There are three bikes lined up in a row, and the three of them are as distinct as the men who ride them.

Gunner walks over to the largest bike and lowers his hulking body into the low-slung seat. His thick arms have to reach for the high chrome handlebars, but the bike suits him perfectly. It’s chromed out with a body the pewter color of gunmetal.

Zeke’s bike is flashier, just like the man himself. It’s bright red with blue piping along the edges. He winces as he sits down, but grins when he sees me watching.

“You’re riding with me, babe,” Zeke says proudly.

“Just because he’s been shot,” Rex replies, his green eyes sparkling. He gingerly places a black helmet on my head and fastens it beneath my chin. “I get you on the way back,” He says, winking.

“It sounds like y’all have this all figured out,” I say slowly, shifting from one foot to another. “But I’ve never done this before.”
