On the other hand, I could be free. Gunner, Rex, and Zeke all want me to stay. What if I did?

The thought almost makes me want to laugh. The preacher’s daughter runs away with three bikers and lives happily ever after. Yeah, right. But maybe it’s not so far-fetched after all. Gunner escaped a worse situation than mine, even bringing his little sisters to safety.

I thought these men were monsters, but as I think back, I realize how I've been proven wrong again and again. Gunner only looks dangerous. He’s a teddy bear inside. Zekeiswild and crazy, but he’s also a talented musician. Even though their lifestyle is unconventional, Zeke has a close and loving relationship with his mom. Rex is more than just a sexy older biker. He’s got brains along with his brawn and the bookshelves full of books to prove it. I have a special connection with each of them, all equally fulfilling but also unique. It’s like we all fit together perfectly.

I actually feel like I belong here.

Once I’ve made my decision, I fall right asleep.

Chapter 24

Goldie

In the morning, I’m awakened by the warmth of a huge hand on my back, rubbing from my shoulders to the base of my spine. I stretch, still face down underneath the covers, before rolling over. When I see that it’s Gunner, already dressed and standing beside the bed next to me, I smile sleepily.

“Good morning,” Gunner says, his voice gravelly but not as gruff as usual. He runs his thick fingers through my tousled hair and I lean into his touch. Once he’s combed through my tresses, Gunner drops to a crouch so that his eyes are at my level. He’s frowning.

“Goldie,” Gunner begins, biting his lip. One hand reaches for mine underneath the sheets and the other touches the day old stubble on his chin.

“About last night,” Gunner says, but then pauses again. His eyes are darting around, unable to meet mine.

I feel my stomach sink.

“You didn’t mean it?” I ask, feeling my lips pull into a frown. My eyes are beginning to water.

“No, no!” Gunner exclaims, grasping my hand in both of his huge ones. He’s finally looking at me.

“I meant every word,” Gunner insists. “It’s just,” He stammers, a blush forming on his cheeks. “I’ve never felt,” He clears his throat. “This way before.” His embarrassment morphs into irritation.

“I don’t like feeling vulnerable,” Gunner says, sticking out his lower lip.

I run my free hand along his rock-hard bicep before leaning in to kiss Gunner’s pouty lips. I can’t wait to tell him my decision, but we have to wait for the other guys to be here, too.

Our lips are still pressed against each other when someone knocks on the door. As we pull apart, the door flies open and Rex and Zeke saunter inside.

“Good morning!” Zeke sings. He’s already dressed in jeans and his leather vest, showing off his colorful tattoos by skipping anything underneath. Zeke’s blue eyes are alert, but his shoulder-length hair looks like he just rolled out of bed. It’s sexy and tousled.

Rex trails behind, clad in black jeans, a black shirt, and his black leather jacket. He’s just as tall, dark, and handsome as the first time I saw him, but the difference between then and now is striking. He looks sweet to me, instead of dangerous, but then he’s also carrying a tray of something that smells amazing. I grin at him, in awe of the sexy biker that can also kill it in the kitchen.

“I made some breakfast, Goldie,” Rex calls, placing the tray down on Gunner’s coffee table and pulling back the foil cover. The sugary scent of cinnamon wafts over to the bed and I scramble out from underneath the covers as Rex chuckles.

“Cinnamon rolls,” Rex announces, placing one on a small paper plate and holding it out to me. As I lean in to take it, Rex kisses my cheek.

“Good morning,” Rex says quietly.

I smile at him and take the cinnamon roll, breathing in the heavenly aroma. Zeke wraps his arm around my waist and guides me to sit on the couch between them.

I plop down, ready to enjoy the warm, gooey breakfast. Gunner sits across from us, nervously picking at his roll.

“Today’s the day, Goldie,” Gunner says, staring down at his plate.

Rex freezes, plate in hand, and even Zeke stops chewing.

My heart pounds. I can’t keep them in suspense any longer.

“I’ve decided something,” I say, looking down as I bat my eyelashes. Suddenly, I feel shy. My palms feel sweaty. I sit down my plate and subtly wipe my hands against my oversized t-shirt.

“And?” Gunner grunts. He’s staring at me and I think he may even be holding his breath.
