Kitty and Kiki exchange a glance before scurrying down the hallway.

“Are you sure?” I hiss as soon as the girls have left the room. “Where are Rex and Zeke?”

Gunner places his hands on my shoulders and stares deeply into my eyes.

“Goldie, I promise you,” He says. “Everything is fine. Rex and Zeke had to go on a run, but they’ll be back later this afternoon.”

I take a breath and my body relaxes slightly. “And my father?”

Gunner’s hands slide down my arms and he holds onto both of my hands again.

“The club will go collect tonight, but Rex, Zeke, and me will stay with you.”

“And that’s it?”

“It’s as good as settled, Goldie,” Gunner says. I search his eyes, but see no sign of uncertainty there. I feel every muscle in my body relax.

“But there’s one thing,” Gunner adds, smiling before I can tense up again. “If you’re staying with us, you’re going to need some things.”

I grimace as I remember my walk-in closet full of modest dresses at my father’s home. I’m not particularly attached to any of my belongings. Things are just things, after all. But I can’t keep borrowing from Kitty and Kiki forever.

Shopping used to be a chore, but now I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. I always tried to cover up my curves. With this newfound freedom, I’m uncertain about what to choose.

“I’m going to need some help,” I say, tilting down my chin.

Gunner grins at me and my entire body feels warm.

“Kiki! Kitty!” Gunner calls over his shoulder. “We need to go shopping!”

There are squeals of delight from the sisters’ bedroom and in no time at all, we’re zipping towards the city mall in a sleek black SUV. Gunner’s driving, with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on my knee, while Kitty and Kiki entertain us from the back seat.

“So, what all do you need, Goldie?” Kiki asks. She leans forward and rubs her palms together, ready to get down to business.

“Um, everything?”

The sisters exchange a glance and begin discussing a game plan. I observe with some amusement while Kitty instructs Gunner on where to park the car. He’s this terrifying man, but so tender with his little sisters.

Gunner passes me a black baseball cap and I pull it low on my forehead. I hope it’s enough that no one will recognize me. Withsome trepidation, I follow Kitty and Kiki to the first store on their agenda. Gunner’s hand is warm on my lower back and his hazel eyes scan the surrounding shoppers.

Kiki and Kitty immediately march to the junior’s section and begin sorting through the racks of clothing. They handpick items, murmuring to each other before passing the garment to Gunner to hold. He follows behind them, one arm draped with clothing and the other wrapped around my shoulders.

“This color would lookamazingon you!” Kiki gushes, holding up one hanger.

“I agree,” Gunner grumbles. “But I can’t carry anymore.”

The sisters titter with laughter as they lead the way to the fitting rooms and Gunner carries the pile of clothing to an open stall for me.

I wonder if Gunner’s going to come inside and watch me while I change. There’s a tingle between my legs at the thought.

Gunner plants a wet kiss on my lips and taps my rear end playfully as he pulls away.

“I expect a fashion show,” He growls.

I feel shy, but I’ll try the outfits on. After I put on the first one, I take a deep breath and strut out towards the chairs just outside the fitting rooms. I spin and turn around to wait for the criticism. My stepmother usually thinks that I need to cover up more and Bianca often warns me I look fat.

“Goldie!” Kiki gasps and I stiffen until her face breaks into a smile. “That’s amazing on you!”

I glance at myself in the bank of mirrors, but I can barely recognize myself. I look like a new person in the black low-slung jeans and figure-hugging maroon blouse. It’s biker chic instead of preacher’s daughter.
