Esther’s eyebrows squiggled, and she put a hand to her heart. “Aw!”
“I know, right? Only it wasn’t actually adorable. It was super, super-hot.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes, really.”
She put a hand in front of her mouth, trying to stop her giggles. “He tied your shoe, and that was hot?”
“Fuck off. It was. I can’t explain it. I know it sounds ridiculous.” I shook my head. “Anyway, he asked if I was into going to a hotel or back to his place or my place—” I made a face. “And I said I’d go to a hotel with him.”
“You dog!”
“And we ended up at the Chateau.” I shrugged as if I ended up at the Chateau Laurier every weekend.
She blinked. “The Chateau Laurier? Are you fucking kidding me?”
“Nope.” I popped the ‘p’ to emphasize it.
“You got fucked at the Chateau Laurier!” Esther shouted. I gestured for her to keep it down, but she waved her hand toward Lev’s room.
“Lev’s got their headphones on. It’s fine.”
The door opened, and Lev stepped out, sans headphones.
“Sorry… I had to see who got boned at the Chateau Laurier. Oh, hi, Toby. Wouldn’t have expected it was you.”
“Thanks a lot,” I said, hiding my face. “I didn’t getboned.”
“Oh,” they both said.
“Bummer,” Lev added.
“No, no, no. We had fun. We had sex…just not… Never mind.”
“Good times,” Lev said, moving into the kitchen. “Oooh, pizza!”
“Help yourself,” Esther said.
Lev had been living with Esther for over a year now, and I liked them. They had committed to the non-binary label and were unapologetic about anything relating to the genuine expression of their gender. They’d taken their name from the kick-ass trans character inThe Last of Us, which I thought was amazing.
Esther looked at me, eager for me to continue. I debated whether or not I cared if Lev was here to listen and decided I didn’t.
“Well, he was great. I was great. Everything was great.”
“Great!” Lev said.
“Come on!” Esther moaned. “I want details!”
“Oh for fuck’s sake. He was good with his tongue. That’s all I’m saying.”
“Oh yeah. Boom chicca wow-wow,” Esther sang, grinding like a porn star, making me laugh.
“You liked him?” Lev said.
“Yeah. It was…kinda more than I bargained for,” I admitted.
“What do you mean?” Esther asked.
