She frowned and put her hands on her hips. “What are you worried about?”

She stared at me with confusion.
“No comment. Now listen… I need to work on a couple of things this afternoon, but I can go to the library if you and Lev…”
“I’m going out,” Lev said, standing up and throwing the remote to Esther. “You can use my room if you need some peace.”
“Really? Thanks. That would be super helpful,” I replied.
“Yeah, no worries.”
Lev’s room was plastered with pride stuff. They had a trans flag and a pride flag and a non-binary flag, which did a good job of covering most of the walls. There was a bulletin board full of news clippings. They had a rainbow comforter on their bed.
Everything was neatly put away and tucked in. A light-blue plush shark perched on their pillow, looking like it was guarding their sleeping spot.
The desk was tidy and neat, so I put my laptop on it and sat in the ergonomic, cushioned desk chair. My phoned dinged.
I pulled it out to look and saw it was a text from Alastair. My heart leaped in a way that would have embarrassed me if anyone else had known of it.
