Luca sizes me up in a single glance, then gives his bodyguard a look. Like magic, the man’s hands are off my shoulders, and Luca steps closer. “I’m sorry. I must not have been looking where I was going.”

He’s not what I expected. I figured he would be annoyed and short-tempered. I definitely splashed his jacket. But all I see in his dark eyes is warmth and concern. Well, he is a businessman. I doubt he’d get far if word spread of him screaming at one of his customers for something so trivial.

My heels still put me at a disadvantage against his towering height. He has to bend to speak close to my ear. “Or maybe I was blinded by you. I’ve never seen you around here before.” From this vantage point, I catch a glimpse of ink peeking out from beneath the top two popped buttons of his shirt. It looks like the top of an N and a T. Santoro?

Does he have his family name tattooed on his chest?

A sick chill runs down my spine when his breath fans across my ear and my neck. This is a murderer. At the very least, he turns a blind eye to what his family does. Either way, he’s detestable and disgusting.

What a shame he smells so good. Spicy and musky combined with his charming grin leaves me reminding myself of who I’m dealing with. “I really am sorry. I’m so clumsy. And it is kind of dark in here.” I bite my lip and twirl a strand of hair around my finger because why not? Why not sell the innocent act?

His grin widens into a smile that reminds me of a shark. “It’s easier to do bad things in the dark, isn’t it?” he remarks in a low tone. An involuntary shiver runs up my spine, and it takes everything I have to ignore it.

I already knew he was dangerous.

But when a flush heats my body and makes me lose my breath, it occurs to me I had no idea just how dangerous.

LUCA

Just when I thought tonight was going to be nothing but business.

“Boss?” Vinny nudges me, then jerks his chin toward the dark hallway leading back to my office. That’s all he needs to say, with that one small gesture for me to get the message. There’s a visitor waiting for me, and I shouldn’t keep him waiting. Then again, maybe I should. I’ll let him sweat a little, let him question the poor choices that have led him to this, the final night of his life. The stupid, sloppy bastard.

First, there was the matter of kissing a little ass at the VIP table. It was the last thing I felt like doing with a plaything waiting for me, but now I’m glad I made the sacrifice. Otherwise, I would never have bumped into this cute little piece of ass who thinks I don’t know she deliberately fell against me. Somebody needs to tell her this isn’t my first rodeo.

“In a minute,” I tell Vinny before turning my attention back to her. She can’t be more than a couple of inches above five feet, with a curvy little body and big blue eyes. The sort of eyes a man could drown in if that’s his thing. Her pouty lips draw my gaze, and already, I can imagine them wrapped around my cock, looking down at those blue eyes, listening as she chokes while I force myself against the back of her throat again and again. Would she cry while choking on my cock? I’m betting she would, a little thing like her.

So easy to control. My cock stiffens at the mere thought, and I clench my jaw, working it back and forth as I take a focusing breath.

“At least let me get you another drink.” I look down at her glass, then down at the Armani jacket she carelessly splashed. “White wine?” Her head bobs up and down, and I wave Vinny toward the bar before hooking an arm around her tiny waist. “Come on. Let’s sit down. Are you sure you’re all right? You didn’t twist or sprain anything?”

“I’m fine. Thank you, I feel so bad. I’m sure you’re busy.”

Yeah, busy inhaling the vanilla aroma coming off light brown hair I’m going to wrap around my fist later. “Never too busy to spend a few minutes with a beautiful woman,” I say, guiding her into one of the booths and watching as she slides in gracefully, her dress hugging her curves, carving out a seductive silhouette.

“Oh, stop,” she brushes me off, her cheeks glowing pink as she looks down at the table.

Sweet and innocent.

My favorite type.

Fuck knows, I’ve seen enough jaded, cynical bitches in my time. They might stir my dick, but they don’t pique my interest.

Vinny comes over with the wine, which he places in front of her before taking a step backward, hands clasped in front of him. “You can go,” I announce. “I’ll meet you in a few.” His brows lift over his narrowed eyes, but he shrugs it off, leaving us alone—as alone as you can be in a club where a few hundred people are dancing, drinking, and putting money in my family’s pockets.

“What’s your name?” I ask, leaning back against the leather cushion.

“Em,” she replies with a soft smile.

Her eyes are a pair of sapphires on fire, burning their way into my skull, threatening to tear apart everything I’d planned for tonight. I shift in my seat once my wakening dick makes me uncomfortable. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“And what’s your name?” she counters.

I let out a laugh, shaking my head, not buying it for a second. “Try again.”

She shrugs, and I narrow my eyes. “You know who I am.”
