I file Sara’s folder safely away, my mind finally unwinding. I'm already excited for the special evening ahead. Having a home office has its advantages, and after switching off the lights and closing my office door, I head upstairs to prepare for the evening.

After a quick shower, I straighten my hair, apply makeup, slip into the red lingerie Kyle adores, select a pair of heels, and wear the little red dress he gifted me recently. I take a final look in the mirror, already picturing his reaction. I head downstairs, set the alarm, and walk into the garage. The garage door opens as I climb into my car and the engine of my Juke roars to life, stirring butterflies in my stomach. I back out of the garage and wait for the door to close before heading downtown. I know it's not necessary, but I've always viewed home as my sanctuary and although this neighborhood is the safest in the county, caution never hurts.

At 7 p.m. sharp, I arrive at the Royal. This place holds special memories. Here, Kyle took me on our first date and, two years later, right here, he proposed. I will always cherish that evening and the ones that followed. Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday, fresh out of college, I saw him in his full glory. My God, he looked sexy in that uniform. But it was the moment he caught my eye and winked that he completely captured my heart. I was too shy to admit it then, and I made him work for it before agreeing to grab coffee with him. I smile, reminiscing about those early days.

As I approach the entrance, my heart quickens in anticipation of the evening ahead. He always has a surprise planned and continually amazes me, even in the smallest gestures. Kyle has always been my safe haven, and I am deeply in love with him.

When I step into the restaurant, Paul, the maître, takes my coat and escorts me upstairs. I'm surprised to find we're alone. Has he booked out the entire place just for us? The room is softly lit by candles, and a trail of rose petals leads to Kyle, waiting for me at the end. A smile spreads across my face as I approach, recognizing the affectionate look in his eyes.

“Hi baby,” he murmurs, gently taking my hand. “You look stunning.”

“You're insane.” My heart's melting.

“Only for you, baby.” He guides me to our table, pulling out my chair. As I sit, he plants a soft kiss on my neck, sending shivers down my spine, then pulls away, leaving me yearning for more.

Paul uncorks a bottle and pours us wine, while appetizers are brought to our table.

He lifts his glass toward me, “You look beautiful.”

I do the same, feeling my cheeks redden, “This is too much. But thank you.”

“Nothing is too much for you, and besides, I wanted some alone time with you.”

Could he be any sweeter? “We could've stayed at home.”

“I didn't want you to cook.”

“We could've ordered takeout,” I tease.

Kyle laughs, replying, “Not tonight, Miri.”

His voice takes on a commanding tone. The same one he used when I went to Hellfire and some guys from our group tried to step out of line. Seeing him in a uniform had a certain effect on me, but seeing him in a sharp suit was downright irresistible. I felt small compared to his towering height.

“Everything cool?”

“Bro, we got the card,” Val spits out.

His gaze drifts to the card. “First time, huh? You sure you didn't pick the wrong club?” He locks his eyes on me, spotting my bracelet. “The lady doesn't want to be touched.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Andrew steps up.

When filling out the form, I mentioned I was here just to watch and didn't want any trouble, so they slapped on this black and gold bracelet. Anonymous as it was, it worked like a charm. Many came, but backed off when they saw it. I can't say a word; I'm captivated by his presence, though it's odd seeing him here.

“Touch her again, and you're booted from the club.”

“Bro, she's with us,” Andrew scoffs, turning his eyes to him, “we're a group, not sure if you get it.”

“Andrew, cut it out, he's right,” I scold him before he stalks off.

“Miri, don't joke,” Val pipes up but I ignore him and trail the stranger. I have to know at least his name.

He heads for the bar, and pauses to chat with a couple, while I hang back, waiting for him to wrap up until the girl grins at me and he swivels around. He bids them a good night and zeroes in on me, “Need something?”

“Thanks for earlier.”

“Look out for yourself, and keep an eye on your surroundings.” He glances at his watch and scans the room.

“Your name?”
