“We were just about to wrap up for the night. I’m sorry you had to come all the way out here.”

The two cops shared a look.

“We’ve had some noise complaints.”

“You won’t have any more,” Xander assured them.

Brandon shifted on his feet, and then cleared his throat. “All right then.” My chest eased as Brandon nodded. “Make sure people get home safe and keep the noise down.”

“Will do. Thanks.”

Brandon turned, and his partner gave Xander a small wave. “Have a good night, guys. Stay safe.”

And then they were gone. Just like that.

Thea let out a long breath, like she’d been holding it that whole time. She turned to Xander and kissed him on the cheek. “I guess dating the sheriff’s son has its perks.” Her mouth pulled up into a wobbly grin.

Xander wrapped his arms around her, and Thea let my hand drop as he crushed her into his body. “Yeah, well, let’s not push things, okay?”

“Why not?” Thea giggled. “I mean, we can turn the music down, but that doesn’t mean we have to end the whole party.”

“Think again.” Reid’s voice was a low grumble. Despite the bullet we had dodged with the cops, my stomach soured. Reid was glaring at Thea, his hands fisted at his sides. He looked livid.

“Are they gone?”

A high, breathy voice came from the doorway, and I glanced over as Delainey, our final roommate, popped her head out. I hadn’t seen her all night. Her bright-orange hair was pulled up onto the top of her head, matching her cheetah print minidress.

“Everyone has to leave. Now,” Reid growled.

Delainey’s mouth dropped open. “Aw, how come?”

“’Cuz my brother is the fun police.” Thea rolled her eyes.

“I think you’d rather have the fun police than the actual police coming back here, wouldn’t you?”

Thea didn’t argue about that one.

Delainey sighed. “Fine. Whatever.”

It took longer than expected to get everyone to filter out of the house. There were more than a few disgruntled partiers, but Reid was not taking no for an answer and he was quite intimidating when he had to be.

Everyone was kicked out of the house, including Xander and Delainey’s boyfriend, Owen.

“You are so ridiculous!” Thea shouted at her brother as Xander tried to give her a goodbye kiss.

“Hey, baby, it’s fine. I’ll see you in a few hours.”

Thea’s eyes were blue flames as she glared at Reid, who was literally holding the door open. “Why can’t he stay?”

“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“I’m nineteen, Reid.”

“I know.”

“My boyfriend can stay the night if he wants to.”

Reid sighed.
