“Um.” Her slender eyebrows drew together. “I think his name is…Davis or something?”

“Owen Davis?” I snapped, my pulse hitching up.

Emersyn nodded. “Yeah, that’s it. He hangs out with my brother—”

I didn’t wait for her to finish her sentence before I turned and headed to the bar. My entire body was hot as fury boiled in the pit of my stomach. I was vaguely aware of Emersyn calling after me, but I ignored her. I marched around the building. Yanking open the front door, I stalked inside.

My eyes found him immediately. He was in the same seat he’d occupied in the security footage with Lily Baker. I strode toward him, every muscle coiled and ready to spring. Owen barely had time to turn his head before I reached for him. My hand fisted into his dark T-shirt as I pulled him off his barstool.

“Hey!” He yelped as I dragged him close. “What the hell?”

I leaned my face toward his, letting every ounce of anger and rage emanate from me.

His expression quickly wilted from annoyance to fear. He tried to pull away, but I was bigger than him. Stronger. He wasn’t getting away unless I let him.

“Where is she?” I said, my voice a low hiss.

Owen’s eyes bulged. “Huh? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

His hands scrabbled against my hold on him, but it was futile. I jerked him back against the bar. “Don’t play with me, Davis. There was a woman outside this bar the same time you were. Where the hell is she?”

Some of his panic cleared from his face. His dark, bushy brows narrowed. “A woman? You mean that tiny blonde bitch?”

I saw red. I flung him to the side, knocking over his barstool and lifting him off his feet so he was eye to eye with me. The entire bar went silent. “Where the hell is she?” I growled, pooling all my self-control so that I wouldn’t punch him in the face.

Owen grimaced. “I don’t know!” He shook his head. “She was getting on my case, but that cop showed up and I left her alone.”

I froze. “Cop?”

Owen nodded frantically. “Yeah, that dude running for sheriff. That Cohen guy.”

Slowly, I set him back on his feet. His face was flushed, his chest heaving. “You saw her with Xander Cohen?”

“Yeah.” Owen nodded again, and nothing in his expression or his tone hinted that he was lying. “He came up to her and told me to leave. So I did. She wasn’t worth getting into trouble for.”

My fingers uncurled from his shirt, and he scrambled away, mumbling curses under his breath. I turned and headed out of the bar before Callie scolded me for interrupting her business.

Emersyn was still outside, staring at me, eyes round behind her glasses. “What the hell was that?”

I assumed she watched that whole exchange through the glass door.

I shook my head. “Something isn’t right here.”

Unease burned in my gut, replacing the anger. I couldn’t get hold of Xander all day, he seemingly hadn’t turned in evidence, and now he was the last person seen with Lark before she disappeared.

Nausea roiled inside me. I pulled out my phone and called someone I knew I could trust.

“What’s up?” August answered on the second ring.

“I need help,” I said, trying to mask my fear.

There was a brief pause. “What’s wrong?” August asked.

“It’s Lark.” My voice broke on her name. “She’s missing.”
