Daisy and I stayed in bed for the rest of the day.

We watched movies, ate junk food, and fucked. It was the best day I’d had in…probably ever. I wasn’t eager to let her go or to get back to real life where I had to deal with the shit from the attack, and the senator who had been blowing up my phone for the span of an entire day.

I suppose seeing that his daughter was the property of the president of the biker club that handled his dirty business was likely not the best news he’d received.

I smiled at the memory.

“What are you smiling at?” Laura swiped her thumb over my mouth.

My dick twitched under the sheet, already hungry for her again. Just half an hour ago, she’d straddled my face and then took my cock. We needed a break. I knew we did, but when she touched me, it was difficult to keep my hands to myself.

“The look on your dad’s face when he saw your property patch.”

She let out a small laugh, snuggling into my side.

“He keeps calling,” I mused quietly.

She hummed. “You should talk to him; he’s an important asset. Don’t burn your bridge.”

She was right, but the connection with him nearly ruined what I had with Daisy. She swatted my stomach.

“Call him.”

Relenting, I raised my phone to my ear and did just that.

It rang a few times before he picked up.

“Mr. Quinn, it’s nice of you to return my call. I need to speak with you.”

I pulled Laura closer to my side. “So speak.”

He made a sound of frustration.

“In person…and I’d appreciate it if you brought my daughter, so I can explain myself to her. She won’t answer my calls, and I don’t need her mother hearing anything that’s been blown out of proportion.”

I was about to tell him to fuck off, but Laura tapped my chin, and when I looked down at her, she nodded. Likely being able to hear everything we were saying.

I could see it in her eyes: she wanted…or maybe needed this closure with him.

“Fine, we’ll be there within the hour.”

We met at one of our other locations, a steakhouse that had been closed for nearly a year. Near the front of the restaurant where the daylight still offered enough light to see by, we slipped inside. I’d told Wes and Giles about my meeting, and since Jameson was still on the premises with Penelope, he’d gotten a text as well.

Laura was wearing a simple long-sleeved shirt with her property patch over it and a pair of clean denim jeans. Her hair was dried, and curled down her back, her face clear of any makeup. I was eager to take her back home, and stay there.

I heard her quick intake of breath and felt when she froze in place.

I slid my hand up her back to calm her down, while guiding her forward.

Senator Witt was in the middle of the room as we entered. The people with him yesterday were no longer present. It was the first thing that had my teeth on edge. I scoped out the place, looking over the shadows and other exit points. But then I stopped. This was the senator and Laura’s dad. A prideful prick but not a dangerous one. His discretions were never bloody or had anyone being hurt, it was all just to cover what he did with his dick.

Laura held onto my wrist as she stared off with her dad.

“Thank you for coming. We need to discuss a few things.”

Laura looked up at me, and then her dad clicked his tongue as if he were suddenly emotional. His arms opened, and he beckoned Laura forward.

“Can you give your old man a hug? It’s been too long, sweetie.”
