Laura took one step forward, but I pulled her back to my side.

My phone was out, held down in my other hand, pressing on Wesley’s number.

It was the burner phone we took with us on raids, it connected to only one number and the other party understood what it meant if a call came through in the middle of a deal.

“You’re going to prevent her from hugging her father?” Hugh’s silver suit accented his graying hair and his sharp blue eyes. But something sinister seemed to lurk in their depths. Which had my stomach churning. Had I been wrong, was he dangerous?

“No, you don’t usually hug me.” Laura tipped her head back and looked at me, as if she were connecting the dots of what was happening.

Fuck. He was planning something.

“Cut to the point, Witt. What the fuck do you want?”

That’s when everything in my stomach felt like it’d been diced and shredded because a familiar pair of eyes that matched my own stepped out from one of the corners.

My breath stalled in my lungs as I pulled Daisy closer.

“Hello, Son.” My dad smiled as he drew closer.

He was in civilian clothes, a dark shirt and jeans. His face had a few days’ worth of growth, and his eyes glimmered with the destruction he had promised when I last saw him.

My father was going to kill me, and if he was successful, then he’d kill Daisy too.

“What he offer you?” I asked my dad, moving to tuck the phone away, so I could grab my gun.

Laura moved with me and wisely started to slide behind me.

“I offered clemency,” Hugh said with a twisted sneer.

My eyes focused on him instead of my dad for a brief second. “You owed that to our club.”

My dad laughed.

Hugh narrowed his focus. “I fulfilled my end of the deal, seeing as Jefferson will now be taking over as president.”

Daisy gasped.

“And what of your daughter?”

My heart slammed against my ribs with hope that the senator would take pity on her. Have mercy. Take her out of here and get her to safety.

“She would have ruined me if anyone caught wind that she was fucking the president of a biker gang. She’ll be taken care of as well. I’ll tell her mother it was an unfortunate accident.”

The door behind us opened as someone new joined the fray.

Daisy turned to look, but I wouldn’t take my eyes off the men in front of me.

That was until I heard a click, the sound of a gun being prepped.

I spun around in time to see Luke Holloway, the vice president of the Chaos Kings holding a gun to Laura’s head.

Her hand found mine as she shuddered. “I love you.”

My eyes widened, processing what was about to happen, and then right as my mouth parted on a scream, someone’s gun went off and all I could see was red.
