Page 38 of Where We Belong

The person stepped back, leaving me on my own to figure out how to get where I needed to go.

I stepped on the mattress, falling forward, and then flailed my arms again before straightening. I was so mad at myself. I never forgot to grab my glasses before heading to bed, but last night was a mess and I was so tired, I literally collapsed into bed and gently pulled my contacts out, then just left them on the floor like a disgusting weirdo.

“Are you blind, Daisy?”

Definitely Killian then, his voice was cheery, and I could imagine a smile curling his lips.

I knew the layout of the room and no, I wasn’t blind. I just had really terrible vision. I was considered legally blind without my corrective lenses in place, so if I didn’t have my contacts, or my glasses, I was completely and utterly fucked. Everything was a blur, and I couldn’t make out a single thing.

My hands landed on the counter, and I began feeling to get the layout.

Sink. Toothpaste. Electric toothbrush that fell over the second I touched it.

“Here, shit. You looking for glasses?” Killian asked, pulling on my elbow.

“Yes.” I finally found my voice because, at this rate, I wasn’t going to find them on my own and that terrified me. My contacts were in the cupboard and as long as no one moved them then I’d be able to make my way to them, but I still had eye makeup on. I usually wanted to wash my face and drink a cup of coffee before putting my contacts in.

I heard Killian moving something, glass clinking, and then he was gently guiding a pair of frames onto my face.

His defined jaw came into view first, then his sensual lips that were far too pillowy to be real. Then his nose, and his stormy green eyes that were framed by thick lashes. I suddenly wanted to know if he inherited them from his father or his mother. Then I remembered what he’d said about his father being a murderer and winced.

“There she is. Finally registered the wolf standing in front of her.”

Gripping the edge of my glasses, I pushed them into place with a slight smile.

“Thank you.”

He searched my face, and I assumed that gaze would travel like it usually did, but he just stayed fixated on my eyes, or rather the large black frames over them.

“You wear glasses.” His smile widened.

A blush crept up my neck for some reason as his fingers traveled to the sides of my head.

“Thick ones, which means you’re really blind…how come you didn’t say anything?”

Scoffing, I pushed past him. “Why would I tell you that I can’t legally drive or even eat cereal without a prescription?”

“So you wear contacts most of the time?” Killian caught up with me, seemingly engrossed in my eye condition.

“All the time. I never wear glasses unless I’m in bed, or early in the morning.”

Where were my sweats? I usually had them by the bed at night because it was always so cold in the morning. I searched the area, now able to see, recalling everything that had happened last night and the fact that I was currently in front of Killian in just my underwear.

“Can you go downstairs or something?” I asked, quickly darting toward the closet to grab some clothes.

A dark laugh followed me. “Why would I?”

Ugh. He was being annoying this morning. The light in the closet came on with a flip of the switch, and I dipped down to dig through one of my larger suitcases.

“Because I’m currently occupying this room.”

His shoulder found the doorframe, his eyes fixated on me as I scoured for clothes.

“My house. I can be anywhere I want.”

“And what you want is to be standing here, watching me?” I knew I shouldn’t have asked. Toying with him wasn’t smart, and he’d already proven that I was the idiot, lost girl who kept falling in the large paw of the wolf, who very much liked to play with her.

His eyes gleamed.
