"So are you going to let me go?" I dared to ask.

Sasuke smirked. "Yes and no," he answered cryptically.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "What does that mean?" I asked.

He shrugged nonchalantly. "For now, you're safe," he assured me. "But I still need to figure out my next step."

"Well, you can start by telling me what the hell is going on," I demanded firmly.

Sasuke gave me a calculating look. "It's not that simple," he said evasively. "There's a lot going on here that you don't understand."

A wave of frustration washed over me. "Oh, please, enlighten me," I snapped. "Because I'm just dying to know why you decided to kidnap my dead sister and ended up with me." It really was as crazy as it sounded.

Sasuke raised an eyebrow but didn't comment. Instead, he motioned toward the coffee table. "There's croissants," he offered casually. "Help yourself."

I eyed the bag skeptically, weighing my hunger against Sasuke's unpredictable nature. "No thanks," I said. "Tell me why you're after Harris."

Why was he changing the subject?

I wanted answers.

I swallowed hard, trying to push the panic rising inside me. I had to stay calm. If I started losing it, then I would lose control. I couldn't afford to lose control. I had to protect myself and find out what was happening.

A long silence stretched between us. I didn't back down, continuing to stare at him as he drank his coffee. Surprisingly, he didn't seem the least bit hungover or tired from last night.

"Tell me," I urged.

"Careful, babe," Sasuke warned. "You may feel brave because you're untied and full of coffee, but I'm still in control here."Sasuke's voice was low and dangerous, reminding me whose turf I was on. "If you push me, I won't hesitate to hurt you. Do you understand?"

I nodded reluctantly, swallowing the lump in my throat. He had a point. Despite my bravado, I was still at his mercy. The thought of him hurting me sent shivers down my spine. I forced myself to meet his gaze, refusing to show weakness.

"Okay, fine. Just tell me what's going on," I said, trying to maintain composure.

Sasuke eyed me carefully, considering his words. "I am not able to tell you everything," he said. "To be honest, even I don't know all the details of why. I just know what I need to do."

"What's that?"

"Kill Harris Cheng."

I gasped.

My captor kept talking as if death wasn't something to bat an eye at. "And your sister was part of the plan. Harris has gone missing, and we needed bait." He frowned. "Turned out our information was wrong, seeing how your sister is dead."

I winced at his lack of emotion.

So, Sasuke was some sort of hitman and I'd gotten tangled up in all of this? Fantastic.

"Well, that sucks," I tried to be as nonchalant about all of this as he was. My voice cracked, and I failed miserably. "I guess you'll be letting me go then, huh?"

"Not quite," Sasuke said, pacing back and forth in front of me.

My eyes watched him, unable to look away from his striking allure.

"When I said Harris' name, your eyes went wide. You know something about him, don't you?" My captor asked.

I jolted back in the chair, nearly tipping it over for a second time in less than an hour. "Harris? No. I haven't seen him since my sister's funeral."

Sasuke spun on his heel and dove into my personal space. Our lips almost touched as he spoke. "That's a lie! I know you know something."
